POOR JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!!!

Justin Timberlake Joins Stones At Toronto Benefit, Gets Pelted With Garbage

Pop star sang 'Miss You' with veteran rock band on Wednesday night.

TORONTO — In perhaps his most memorable cameo since donning a furry dolphin suit at a Flaming Lips performance, Justin Timberlake joined Mick Jagger and the rest of the Rolling Stones onstage during the veteran rock band's set at the

concert for Toronto on Wednesday night.

The afternoon kicked off on a low point for Timberlake when a concertgoer's sign questioning the singer's sexuality made it to the jumbotrons for about 15 seconds. Timberlake took to the stage with an obvious awareness of audience cynicism, beginning his set with a small attempt to mitigate the crowd's frustration: "This will be over before you know it."

During his mini-set of "Cry Me a River," "Senorita" and "Rock Your Body," Justin gracefully dodged water bottles flung by anti-pop audience members, and winced slightly at their less than playful jeers. After quietly thanking the city of Toronto for generally being welcoming to him and his tour crew, Timberlake left the stage to make way for more crowd-pleasing acts including the Guess Who, Rush, AC/DC and headliners the Rolling Stones.

Justin got his sweet revenge, though, when Jagger invited him onstage for what appeared to be an unrehearsed performance of "Miss You," in which Timberlake mimicked Jagger's signature sways and echoed his vocals. In a clearly forced but effective fusion of classic rock and bubblegum pop, Jagger even sang the words "cry me a river" for several repetitions with Timberlake. And though the audience still managed to sling a few bottles Timberlake's way, guitarist Keith Richards exhibited remarkable tenacity, as he angrily motioned to the crowd to show the pop star a little respect.

Timberlake hugged Jagger and thanked each Rolling Stone by his first name, then humbly (or perhaps strategically) made a quick exit.

Justin shouldn't feel too bad about this. Look what happened to Prince way back when he opened for the Stones. This should just give Justin thicker skin.

Can't say I don't blame the audience. This would be like B2K performing at a Stevie Wonder concert. The two just don't mix.

I just saw this on MSN...Here's there take on the scene...pretty much the same as listed above...

Justin Jeered
Rolling Stones fans don't appreciate Timberlake. Plus, Britney becomes a Duke

Okay, so who was the brainiac who thought Rolling Stones fans would enjoy hearing "Cry Me A River" or "Rock Your Body" from former 'N Sync-er Justin Timberlake? Whoever it was, they're definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed.

At the recent Stones concert to revive tourism in Toronto after the SARS outbreak, the pop singer did not receive the warmest of welcomes from the crowd. In fact, he had to dodge both water bottles and insults that were being flung from the audience. While he tried to convince the rebellious rock fans it would all "be over before you know it," the angry villagers just booed and jeered him throughout his entire set.

Later he reappeared with back-up reinforcements (Mick Jagger and Keith Richards) who tried to guilt the audience into give him a chance. Richards even stared down the crowd and motioned to them to show some respect. Talk about a hostile take-over!
___

In my opinion, there are three MAJOR differences to the Rolling Stones incidences for Justin and for Prince.

#1: Prince was not a "major pop star" when his booing from the stage happened. Justin Timberlake is basically a household name. The same could not be said for Prince when he was booed of the stage.

#2: The Rolling Stones did not stand up for Prince, (that I've ever heard), by coming out on stage with him, having him join them later to sing w/ them or telling the fans to give him a chance.

#3: Prince opening for the Rolling Stones is also a very, shall I say, diverse, pairing, but the fans in Toronto seemed to object more to Justin's pop status, where as when Prince was booed from the stage it was more because they thought he was a freak.
I'm firmly planted in denial

I don't feel sorry for Timberlake at all.

Good intentions for performing or not, the little poser should've expected a reaction like that from an audience who came to see the Stones, AC/DC, et al.

What completely baffles me is that this is the same piece of "boyband shrapnel" (thank you, Ed the Sock, for that phrase!) who is criticized for ripping off other, more talented artists, yet he's all over the entertainment news, doing collaborations, etc.! Why is this?

Good point! Older music fans appreciate good music, from an era where you actually had to have TALENT.Younger, copycat pop acts like Justin Timberlake just can't hang with the real artists.

Yes but being OLDER fans you'd think they would be more mature and this was NOT a Stones' tour this was a benefit for them. What a classless move indeed.

It pisses me off when someone goes and performs for a CHARITY concert and the crowd responds in this way.

This was a promotional concert for Canada... tryin' to tell you don't let SARS scare you away from us... after reading this, it's not the SARS scare that would keep me away. confused

As for the Stones backing Justin now, and not Prince back then (over twenty years ago), what can you say... they're older and wiser. Fuck.. it's been twenty years! lol
