Ken Clarke's Jazz Greats-Miles Davis, BBC Radio 4, Friday 8th Aug Jazz trumpeter Guy Barker talks about the life and legacy of Miles Davis on Ken Clarke's Jazz Greats. Barker was close friends with Davis' associate and arranger Gil Evans, and was witness 2 the way Davis perfected new styles and then moved on. It brings 2 mind the time when Davis was invited 2 a White House party, and a society matron asked what he was doing there, implying that, as a black man, he must be gatecrashing. "Ive written the rules of music five or six times," replied the trumpeter. "What have you done?"

Cool. I'll have to check that show out online if I can... He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. - Albert Einstein | |
