Origins of slap. I recently purchased Marcus Miller's Sun don't lie album, and the guy knows how to slap his weapon for sure, especially on tracks like Rampage. Together with Victor Wooten (see Show of Hands, particularly the Me and My Bass Guitar track) these guys slap the funk right in your face.
Now everyone knows that Larry Graham supposedly coined slap during moments when percussion was lacking in Sly's set up. Question is does anybody know what the first ever track to contain this technique is? He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. - Albert Einstein | |
