Cyndi Lauper signs with Epic...new CD 'Naked City' due later this year! Cyndi Lauper has just signed a new recording contract with Epic (Sony) and her new CD 'Naked City' will be released at the end of the year.I've seen her in concert twice last year, opening for Cher, and she puts on a killer show. She's really a great performer and of course,we all love her 'She's So Unusual' album...lol...so,what do you guys think? Could she make a Cher-style comeback?

Cool. Thanks for this post. I have never seen her live. She is definitely an artist that doesn't get the respect she deserves. Her "Sisters of Avalon" album was brilliant. I'm looking forward to picking up "Naked City" when it comes out! Thanks DavidEye.

Fantastic... so she's gone back to Sony. I hear they're re-signing a few of their old acts lately.
I downloaded her unreleased 'Shine' album earlier this year and it's not bad at all. The 4/5 track EP got a release but I don't know where the rest came from. Maybe it got a limited release in Japan or something.

I have the "SHINE" ep as well. It is good. To be honest I only initially got it because I was interested in hearing 'Madonna Whore' Was VERY pleasantly surprised!

YAAAYY!!! It's weird that Cyndi is back with Epic considering that she kept bitching to Interview magazine about the B.S. they put her through. She even titled her Xmas CD "Have A Nice Life" because it was her kiss-off to them.
Still, "Shine" was a GREAT album and Cyndi has always been a favorite of mine. You go, Cyndi! We're rooting for ya!

Have you guys seen Cyndi in concert recently? She puts on a very good performance.I go crazy when she sings "All Through The Night" (my favorite song by her),and she performs a totally different version of "Time After Time".It's a slower, more acoustic version. And y'all should hear what she does to the Marvin Gaye classic "What's Going On?".Just amazing!

Just seen her last week. She was awesome. And she did a version that of She Bop that sounded like something you'd hear in a French restaurant. Can't wait for the new album.

I really like Cyndi a lot. I can't wait for the next album.
I will say, though, she pissed A LOT of Minneapolis people off this summer. She was performing at our big Pride Party. Tickets were $20 or $25. Anywho, the event was horribly organized (not her fault) but she only played for 40 minutes. Not smart. I was out of town, so I missed it, but EVERY person I talked to when I got home said "Pride was fun but Cyndi Lauper SUCKED." Considering she had a MUCH larger audience than she would've ever gotten if she performed alone (and wasn't tied to a "Pride" event) she had an excellent opportunity to wow people and remind them that she is much more than "Girls Just Wanna", "She Bop" and "True Colors." But, instead she played a short show and made a city of queers write her off... I'm just happy I wasn't here so I can still like her! .....edit..... You know,I've heard similiar comments about her performance at the Pride Festival in L.A. That's too bad, because she is usually great in a regular concert setting.

I have a disk by John Zorn (experimental composer/musician) called "Naked City".
It's funny, I listened to She's So Unusual for probably the first time in fifteen years, two days ago (and enjoyed it)! "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"
"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"
