Frank Black, neone? neone?

This guy was driving force behind the Pixies. Love his solo stuff "Los Angeles" was his bigges hit I think.

His cd "Dogs in the Sand" got lots of good reviews when it came out but I believe there has been one or two since.

I LOVE Frank Black!

More of a Pixies fan, actually, but "Los Angeles" is one of my favorite songs by anyone ever. Love it!!!

Haven't really kept up with a lot of his solo stuff after "Teenager of the Year", which at the time it came out didn't do much for me. I ought to give it another spin...

Oh yeah give it a spin! TOTY was a masterpiece as far as i'm concerned. Lots of keyboards on this one which I love. I came within about 1ft of Frank at a show but couldn't think of a word to say!

Mostly a Pixies fan here also, but I have a friend who is hell-bent on making me as much of a Frank Black fan as possible. I enjoy it, but don't listen all that often.

Saw him play a show here in Mpls several monhts ago. It was fabulous!

"Los Angeles" would make a damn fine opening song for a movie. When the song is acoustic and slow, show the main opening credits on a black screen. Then when the song kicks in..Whooosh! The first shot of the smacks you in the face...

Sigh...once a failed film director always a failed film director.

And yes, I LOOOVE Mr. Black. He's from Ann Arbor, MI, one of my favorite hangouts!!

Teenager Of The Year is an AMAZING album that knocked me flat on my ass when it came out. I had just months earlier been introduced to The Pixies through a mostly reggae-obsessed friend, and then PA-KOW!!

Speedy Marie, ahead of the now -- she's better built, that's how -- she's built for speed.

His voice is GORGEOUS on that track...I love how all the songs are short as hell in true punkrawk fashion...every song that begins I'm all, "OOH! OOH! THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG ON THE ALBUM!"

"Whatever Happened to Pong" has always been a favorite of mine too. BALL IN THE MACHINE!

Holy smack, and "Two Reelers?" "Ole Mulholland?" - The letter was one of my Mulholland Drive songs. (I'm SOOO unpredictable.) I can still see the stars in the big black sky and Los Angeles laid out below - skeezy, cheap and brimming with excitement and possibility.

Sorry, I guess I had a personal moment there. Ahem.

LOVE this album, yeah...

I'm just a real love diplomat - Won't give you no flim-flams.

What did I tell ya?

I'm a thread-killer.

I don't care, cuz I'm headed to the stereo store to get a white noise maker and turn it up to ten.

say what? I don't believe you are a thread killer! I'm just gettin used to navigating this place! And it has been cool to see Frank Black's quotes on your posts! dancing jig

I wish he'd come to St Louis again but I wouldn't blame him if he didn't, the last show didn't have air conditioning and standing room only! 110 degrees F! I can pray he will forgive and come back tho! smile

I honestly haven't heard any of his solo shit, (for no reason, I plan to all the time, I simply haven't YET)... but I adore the pixies.

I love the Pixies of course, and the first two solo lp's from frank I really like. when I bought the 3rd I was disappointed by most of the songs, only "the last stand of..?.." and the titletrack are worth my while. haven't listened to what came after that. reviews say they keep getting more normal which I don't like, I love the madness from the pixies.

I'm a huge Pixies fan. Frank Black & the rest of the Pixies recently jammed together since they all live in L.A. which brings up the possibility of a reunion gig.I'm crossing my fingers.

"Teenager Of the Year" of was excellent. Still is. Kind of defines what alternative rock is and really should be. Not this bubble gum shit that keeps pumping out all the fucking time! I bought "Black Letter Days" when it first came out not too long ago last year. Not bad but never got that into it. He release another album that same day, I think it was caled "Devil's Workshop" but I never bought it. I really want to get "Cult Of Ray" too. Any good?
