I heard some good debut singles here in the states, and began to wonder... hmm, what do my fellow Orgers think were some good debuts?

I'll start:

Alanis Morrisette "You Outta Know"

Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Vision of Love - Mariah Carey considering she wrote it and the initial composition herself (on a piano, that's why there aint much chord progession she can't realy play) at 16 ABOUT HER FIRST CRUSH, I think it's amazing, They couldn't have chosen a better first song

Fallin' - Alicia Keys, got the same reaction as Vision of Love instant classic

Terence Trent D'Arby!!! "Wishing Well" is a fantastic song Btw, was "Wishing Well" his 1st US single, overhere in Europe it was "If you let me stay"?

And shame on you June 7 for not knowing the history of Tierra! "Together" was a huge hit for them in 1981,but it was not their debut single.Their debut album and first single "Little Lady" came out in 1973!!

***Remy Shand "Take A Message"(2002)---Lovely debut single with a Marvin Gaye feel to it.

***Whitney Houston "You Give Good Love"(1985)---Whitney has done some great songs throughout the years,but NONE of them can compete with this soulful,soaring ballad.

***Rose Royce "Car Wash"(1976)---Imagine this...a band that was "created" for the sole purpose of recording songs for a movie soundtrack.How many other artists start off their careers with a movie soundtrack? This song is a catchy slice of Disco/funk that stays in your head all day long.

***Rick James "You And I"(1978)---I remember going out and buying the 45" single in '78.

Anyway my list:

1.For You(1978)-Prince: Prince at his most innocent form lol I love this record so much.

2.The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill(1998): I'm supriced nobody mentioned that yet! I can relate so much 2 this LP and plus it came out during a very good time of my life.

3.Vision Of Love(1990)-Mariah Carey: Funny how this LP and Emotions are pretty much her maturest LPs ever!

4.Whitney Houston(1985): Need 2 say mo'?

5.Teddy Pendergrass(1978): This one made one helluva a buzz back in 78, I remember my aunt telling me the reaction of the DJs and thr ladies calling Radio stations frequently requesting "I Don't Love You Anymore". I thought you were going 2 mention this June7 since you're a big fan

6.Nicole Renee(1998): This is def the female Prince, same raw emotions and same slick lyrics. Lamont Dozier & Arif Mardin made a minor cameo in her LP.

7.The Time(1981): I agree that their debut LP ain't that solid comparing 2 "What Time Is It?" but the reason why I love this LP so much is becoz that had that Ohio Player vibe going on with the production.

Thats all I could think of right now!
