Yeah, that's a real drag. I just saw her in a commercial recently. I'm glad I was able to catch her act a few years ago at Jazz Fest in New Orleans. The Queen of Salsa. She will be missed.

I was fortunate enough to see her at the Ravinia, in Chicago last year. A truly dedicated artist who gave her all to her fans. Rest in peace Celia.

This is horrible! I'm going to latin America soon on a business trip and I'm going to be sad the whole time- all my friends and I WORSHIPPED her- this woman was an artistic force of nature in performance- the Afro-Cuban equivalent to an electric Patti Labelle or a sassy Bette Midler- she had so much FIRE on the stage... This really makes me sad...

I had so hoped she was doing better. She was a beautiful woman with an amazing spirit. I was truly saddened when I heard of her passing. Godspeed, Miss Celia.

Not me. When I heard she was 78 I couldn't believe it! She seemed so feisty!

I just got back from vacationing in Florida...and I was immersed in the Spanish-TV coverage of her death.

The world lost an amazing voice and an even more amazing spirit.

I had the pleasure of seeing her live at the Blue Note Jazz club in NYC about a year ago, and was in awe of her seemingly boundless energy at such an advanced age. This was shortly after the passing of Tito Puente, and she was paying tribute to her long-time friend during the performamce.

They also re-played a tribute concert on Telemundo, hosted by Gloria Estefan and Marc Anthony, where a host of Latin stars sang her songs...including an appearance by none other than Patti LaBelle doing "Quimbara".

Plans have been in the works for some time now for a movie based on the incredible life of Celia Cruz, with none other than Whoppi Goldberg playing the lead role!
