Please Help Me Buy 2 New CDs!

So, I'm gonna buy N.E.W.S. from Amazon.ca, because I don't think I'll be able to find it in any stores. Anyways, I get free shipping and handling if I order more than $39.00 worth of stuff. So, I've trimmed down my very very long list of CDs I want to a few, based on my current musical mood. Please vote for TWO CDs, for me, as no matter which to you pick, it will put me over the top.

I am really broke right now, so I am not buying any more than two. Please don't just vote for the CD because you've heard of it. Only vote for the CDs because you actually like them yourself.

These are the CDs I'm considering purchasing at this point and time, and have been meaning to purchase for AGES!

Thanks for your help,
Sav

Frank Zappa CDs I Want (In Order):
1. Freak Out
2. We're Only In It For the Mony
3. Hot Rats

Miles Davis CDs I Want (In Order):
1. On the Corner
2. Bitches Brew
3. Sketches of Spain

Radiohead - Ok Computer

David Bowie CDs (In Order)
1. Rise and Fall of Ziggie Stardust
2. Hunky Dory

Herbie Hancock - The Herbie Hancock Box (Note: This is very expensive. Vote for this, and it counts as two discs)

Thelonius Monk - Monk's Dream

Ok, that's it. Don't get on my case for not owning some of these essentials, as there is too much I want, and I always have too little to spend. Remember, TWO votes. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Sav, you have to get Hot Rats! It's a incredible album. I'm not a big fan of the other two.

As for the rest the only titles I'm familair with is the miles stuff, UM Sketches of Spain is really orchestrated and Bitches Brew is pretty abstract it's one that grows on ya considered the first shot fired in fusion, and on the corner is Pretty Funky, so I guess it depends on your mood.

I've heard 6 of the albums above, but my vote for two is easy.

1. Hunky Dory
2. Ok Computer

Go buy! (And once you have them, tell me you can't get "Oh You pretty thing" out of your head for a week!)

Well, that's:

2 for OK Computer
2 for Hunky Dory

1 For Hot Rats
1 For "Zappa"

and

1 For any of the "Davis Albums".

I must say I'm a little disappointed in the org here, but I guess I don't carry a name that gets any sort of response.

So thanks to the 4 of you. Voting Booth Closes tomorrow at 5:00 pm, as it stands I'm ordering OK Computer and Hunky Dory. If you people think I'm making the wrong choice, you better let me know post-haste.

sketches of spain (you should buy this after you get Kind of Blue and before Porgy and Bess. For electric Miles, wait until the FIVE DISC Tribute to Jack Johnson box set comes out, I got the advance, and it is the most incredible set you'll ever hear)

hot rats (FZ's most accessible album (if you have zero FZ, start with this one. Then make friends with some weirdo that runs an indie record store (not unlike myself) and listen to his collection to make your next FZ purchase. He's a musical genius, but for every great album he has, he has one that will piss you off to no end...)

(tie breaker)
Ziggy Stardust (get the double disc anniversary edition)

Hope this helps (I almost never post on .org, but couldn't stand someone asking about miles and zappa and getting ignored...)

Sorry, I should have made something more clear.

I already own several Zappa, Bowie and Davis albums, just not these ones. I already own Kind of Blue and Porgy and Bess, and others, and I have a box set of guitar instrumentals, One Size Fits All, Apostrophe, Over Nite Sensation and Strictly commercial from Zappa. So, I don't really need further advice on the artists in particular. Thank you for the advice though.

So now it's:

2 Hunky Dory
1 Ziggie Stardust
2 Ok Computer
2 Hot Rats
and
1 Sketches of Spain

ok, saviorfaire, this is actully really difficult! i understand where your coming from though. i recently became infatuated with thelonious monk and had no idea where to start, so i get ya!

if you are at all familiar with bitches brew, and still want to get it, then be sure to get that one! i think it is one of the most magnificent recordings...ever! if you have never heard any of it, though, hold off on it and search for a used copy in a jazz store. it could be a bit much at first...its far off from the two you have. so, in this case, bitches brew will be my default selection (does that make sense?).

assuming you decide against bitches brew (i know, you said just pick two but that is really hard so let me give a 2nd and then a runner up)...bowie's hunky dory is where its at! i was going to say this one regardless. i think its just a better album compared to ziggy. bowie is a music god and should be treated as such (as should miles, by the way). then there is thelonious monk...

ok, so here it is. hunky dory is a must. it stands alone and should be owned by everyone. between the two, monk and miles, my personal choice would be bitches brew (but we've been through this already). the runner up would have to be thelonious monk. i love me some radiohead but we are talking about legends and pioneers in music here, with davis and monk. not that radiohead haven't carved a way of their own, but i just can't justify choosing them over monk or davis.

man, that shit was hard! no joke...i hope it helped you a out (at least a little). whatever you order, make sure you enjoy it!

Thanks a lot. Very familiar with Bitches Brew BTW, just don't own it. Davis' psychadelic age in the 70s and late 60s always appealed to me way more than the smoothe improv sessions and collaborations with Gil Evans in the 50s and early 60s. Looks like Hunky Dory has pulled into the lead:

3 Hunky Dory
1 Ziggie Stardust
2 Radiohead
1 Monk's Dream
1 Sketches of Spain
1 Bitches Brew
2 Hot Rats

Obviously y'all can relate to the classics I am choosing between considering the relatively split vote. Still no clear winner.

Also, I do A LOT of research before I ever even consider downloading music to consider buying a CD. I am very picky, and as such have developed a very respectable and concentrated collection of nothing but musical gems (and some Prince stinkers smile). Once again, I am familiar with all these CDs, that's why they're on my list. I didn't pull them out of nowhere.

Thanks all for your help.

That Makes:
5 for Hunky Dory
3 Hot Rats
3 Ziggie Stardust
2 Ok Computer
1 Bitches Brew
1 Sketches of Spain
1 On the Corner.

Winner is Hunky Dory. Also, this CD is goddamn expensive, $23.99, so it means I don't have to buy another to break the $39.00 mark. So I won't.

thanks all for voting. Don't worry. I plan to own all of these CDs soon, just not now.

Thanks,
sav.

I would get "Bitches Brew". I've always wanted to get it myself. Have heard it quite a bit.
