As someone who saw the movie when it came out, I can only say that it serves as a testament to the depth of the man's talent that he could so skillfully match music to -- of all things -- visual images that he cannot see. Some of the songs are exqusitely beautiful. Others are educational. Out of context, it may be hard to appreciate that the best thing about certain songs is how well they serve the movie.

Hey, I *forgot* that there was a MOVIE to go along with the album!

For years,I have heard conflicting reports about that movie. Many people say that it was never released, but I have spoken to a few people who actually DID see it.My guess is it was probably a limited-release thing.I don't think it stayed in theatres very long.

It's the same situation with the 1975 film 'That's The Way Of The World'.Earth Wind and Fire appears in that movie and they do the hit soundtrack, but few people have actually seen the film.

Unfortunately, I'm guessing Motown isn't exactly chomping at the bit to remaster a double album that, justly or not, put a screeching halt on Wonder's skyrocketing career (not that much else could be done to top Songs, RIAA-speaking). So I'd say go ahead and buy whatever copy you find laying around.

In the late 90s,Motown/Universal was planning to remaster this album (along with the other 70s albums). But in the end,I guess they changed their minds for the reasons you said.So for now,I'll stick with my vinyl copy.

It's a shame. Even moreso, it's a damn shame they haven't seen fit to remaster any of the albums outside of the apex period. I mean, they're not Innervisions or anything, but damned if For Once in My Life, Where I'm Coming From, Signed, Sealed & Delivered, Jungle Fever, and the Syreeta albums aren't classics all. (Heck, I'd be happy with easy-to-find CD pressings at all in the case of the Syreeta albums.)
