I've never bought a James Brown album and have no intention of doing so. I just find his music unlistenable.
Just my opinion. | |

Just my opinion. I DON'T WANT TO BE NORMAL,because normal is part of the status quo, which I don't want to be a part of- Tori Amos

I know dude is the godfather of soul and can surely respect that, but I don't own anything by him. Singles or albums. Just was a bit before my time. Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

I have nothing!
I do like his music but I would like to get a good hits colleciton (and lord knows there are a ton of budget releases out there) before I start buying anything. Recommendations?

Go get "Star Time" (liner notes by our very own Alan Leeds). This compilation is the MOTHER LOAD of them all!! If you're really into r&b and hip hop then you will recognize a lot of the loops or sounds that have been sampled to death. This package does not include "Living in America", "Static", or "I'm Real" (his last GOOD songs) but it's still a must have!

Bloody Hell! If you don't own any JB and never intend to you should kill yoursef immediately, as you do not deserve to live.
at least get a 'best of'. Prince would not approve of you freaks of nature.

I can't stand JB and his music, and therefore do not own any of his records and I do not intend buying any. To me, George Clinton is the real funkateer! I have one Greatest Hits CD by him,and the two "Live" albums he recorded in the 60s.I didn't like too much of his 80s stuff.Maybe I'll eventually go back and get a few of his albums. Can anyone recommend a few?
He has a multi-disc box set called "StarTime",which King Sausage once told me is very good.I might just get that and go from there.

If I can make a suggestion go with the following releases:
- James Brown "Foundations of Funk" (2CD) - James Brown "Funk Power 1970" - James brown "Make It Funky - The Big Payback" (2CD) - The JB's "Funky Good Time: The Anthology" (2CD) They are great from 1st track to last. A musical funk trip!

I said, I don't think he's his #1 influence. If you don't know what that means maybe music isn't the only thing you don't know.
