Who Had The Best Debut Single...

I was thinking about this the other day.

I heard some good debut singles here in the states, and began to wonder... hmm, what do my fellow Orgers think were some good debuts?

Vision of Love - Mariah Carey considering she wrote it and the initial composition herself (on a piano, that's why there aint much chord progession she can't realy play) at 16 ABOUT HER FIRST CRUSH, I think it's amazing, They couldn't have chosen a better first song

Fallin' - Alicia Keys, got the same reaction as Vision of Love instant classic

According to a Nirvana web site stat list, it reads as follows:

Cobain has had his troubles. The success of his band has been a blessing and a curse. Nirvana's multiplatinum major debut, Nevermind, and the single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" made grunge the trend and Nirvana its apostle – both of which Cobain claimed to despise.

It was the first song I heard from them... not that that means anything...

I didn't know 'Loser' was Beck's first release... great song!!!

LOL..."Oh Sheila" was not RFTW's debut single.Their first single was actually the ballad "Tonight",follwed by another slow jam "Deep Inside Your Love"."Oh Sheila" was their third single.

And shame on you June 7 for not knowing the history of Tierra! "Together" was a huge hit for them in 1981,but it was not their debut single.Their debut album and first single "Little Lady" came out in 1973!!

***Remy Shand "Take A Message"(2002)---Lovely debut single with a Marvin Gaye feel to it.

***Whitney Houston "You Give Good Love"(1985)---Whitney has done some great songs throughout the years, but NONE of them can compete with this soulful, soaring ballad.

***Rose Royce "Car Wash"(1976)---Imagine this...a band that was "created" for the sole purpose of recording songs for a movie soundtrack. How many other artists start off their careers with a movie soundtrack? This song is a catchy slice of Disco/funk that stays in your head all day long.

***Rick James "You And I"(1978)---I remember going out and buying the 45" single in '78.

shocked I could have sworn "Together Baby" was their first and only hit... In '73, I was only 8 yrs old... But of course, I ain't gonna argue with you, you're like a walking encyclopedia of music!!! lol

Pretty much most of 2day's RnB acts started their careers with soundtracks nod

Homegirl can't play no piano! I heard that she played a lil' sumthin sumthin in one of the acts in the Butterfly tour but I don't believe it.

Anyway my list:

1.For You(1978)-Prince: Prince at his most innocent form lol I love this record so much.

2.The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill(1998): I'm supriced nobody mentioned that yet! I can relate so much 2 this LP and plus it came out during a very good time of my life.

3.Vision Of Love(1990)-Mariah Carey: Funny how this LP and Emotions are pretty much her maturest LPs ever!

4.Whitney Houston(1985): Need 2 say mo'? wink

5.Teddy Pendergrass(1978): This one made one helluva a buzz back in 78, I remember my aunt telling me the reaction of the DJs and thr ladies calling Radio stations frequently requesting "I Don't Love You Anymore". I thought you were going 2 mention this June7 since you're a big fan wink

6.Nicole Renee(1998): This is def the female Prince, same raw emotions and same slick lyrics. Lamont Dozier & Arif Mardin made a minor cameo in her LP.

7.The Time(1981): I agree that their debut LP ain't that solid comparing 2 "What Time Is It?" but the reason why I love this LP so much is becoz that had that Ohio Player vibe going on with the production.

Thats all I could think of right now!

"Oh, Sheila" was Ready For The World's 3rd single. "Tonight" and "Deep Inside Your Love" were both singles before it. Sheila E. "Glamorous Life" is a great pick though.
