Mystery-Anita Baker

One of the most pleasing things about this song is when Tod Temprton said that he wrote it with Sarah Vaughn in mind and when he offered it 2 Anita he 4got about Sarah.

I don't know why she didn't release this song as a single!

I love this song! It's my favorite song from the 'Rapture' album.Moody and intoxicating,it's a masterpiece.Although never released as a single,it remains a popular album track that is often played on Quiet Storm stations.I had heard that,at one point, this song was offered to Michael Jackson.

"Mystery"

(written by Rod Temperton)

Turning back the hands of time
Holding on to misty memories
Chasing shadows through the night
Trying to find my happy ending

Reaching out for another chance at heaven
We could still find a way if we try

(chorus)
Baby,believe in the mystery
Like it used to be
We were more than lonely drifers in the dark
I can remember the sun inside
Love held us tight
I need to feel your magic in my heart
Instead of it tearing apart

Diamonds shining in the night
Lying soft and warm together
Only images survive
Can't my dreams go on forever

Oh there's still time to lock away your sadness
Let the secrets of love start to smile

(chorus)
Baby,believe in the mystery
Like it used to be
Baby, bring back all the passion to my heart
I can remember the tender days, all the love we made
Can't you see in me your magic here tonight

(bridge)
Lonely spirits seem to whisper in the wind
It's a silent song that's never meant to be
Since the dawn of time the mystery never ends
We could find forever if we let love rise again

Tell me why can't we reach for another chance at heaven
We can still find the way if you try

(chorus)
Baby,believe in the mystery
Like it used to be
Baby, bring back all the passion to my heart
I can remember the tender days, all the love we made
I need to feel your magic here tonight

Thank god it didn't end up in Thriller, not that MJ is whack or anything at all but I couldn't imagine this song with a falsetto register if you know what I mean.

Where's Rod anyway? And Is there any song he wrote after that Tamia's "You Put A Move On My Heart"? I kinda miss his presence, he's one helluva an arranger, one of Quincy's deadliest secret weapons indeed nod

You know,I've been wondering where is Rod at these days too.I know he wrote several songs for Quincy's last CD 'Q's Jook Joint' (1995) and he does a few interviews on the remastered MJ CDs that came out in 2001 ('Off The Wall' and 'Thriller').But,he's such a great songwriter and it would be nice to hear more from him.
