Similarities between Prince and Andre 3000 (of OutKast)

Just an observation...

From 2000's "Stankonia"

1. The beginning of "Ms. Jackson" started off with a backwards congas playing and then the snare dropped in the same pattern as "Starfish and Coffee."

2. The "B.O.B." video showed Andre displaying his permed-out Prince-like wig (circa 1979's "Prince" or 1988's "Lovesexy"). Anyone also notice how the beat sounded very similar to the way Sheila E. used to pound the hell outta some drums?

3. "Red Velvet" uses Linn Drums throughout the entire song and on Andre's verse he uses the "Bob George" and "Camille" voices.

4. I can't put my finger on it now, but "Toilet Tisha" just sounds like a Prince hommage to me! lol

Also...notice how the album cover just has Big Boi and Dre standing in front of a flag w/ not writing on the front of it. I always thought Prince was one of the first artists to do this on a lot of his albums ("ATWIAD," "Parade," "SOTT," "Lovesexy," "Batman")

im so glad u posted about this! I was really surprised with Stankonia...i was in Sam Goody and they were playing their album...then I was all sayin, "aaah, that South Coast bullshit.." then all of a sudden "PAAAH!" (the Linn Drum sound).

I listened 2 the album at anotehr reka sto, and bought it immediatley, it is very very good. I was wondering if any of their other albums are like that!?

I always thought that "Da Art Of Storytellin" f/ Slick Rick; had a very Prince sounding type of beat, like a skeleton of Kiss or sum bootleg...

just lookit how Andre dresses in So Fresh So Clean video with them tight ass pants on..lol! Very Prince.

Where is the South Coast? lol

Up until Stankonia, OutKast didn't really have any songs that sounded like a Prince track. Maybe "Synthesizer" from Aquemini and that's only because of the Camille voice, but other than that, nothing else.

P.S. Don't hate on the South! no no no! J/K!!! lol

i dont hav nuthin against the South, but their music is just :butt: they dont b talking about nuthin but ramblin about the $$ and shit. The beats are barf, come on now...them hi hats they keep putting in every single thing is rediculous. The Casio keyboard made beats are so so so whack and captures no full beat or bass and is irritating 2 the ear...

Well, Im from New York, and no i dont like everything that NY comes out with. I live in mpls now, and they are doing that midwest shit i cant stand that just sounds like a rip off of the South Coast (Nelly/ Bone Crusher) woo, i can go on n on...lol

No, I could totaly understand where u coming from lol but keep in mind that Lauryn Hill(same as Erykah) are always talking about personal demons and what not if you know what I mean, I could relate 2 them. In Eryka/L-Boogie's case, its about lyrics rather than music.

I could dance to Outkast,,,but it would take a hard work 4 me to just sit with the walkman in my lap and the lyrics booklet in my hands. You feel me?

But then again,,U could be a good help wink

I hear ya'. lol I'm probably more biased to OutKast anyway because they put Atlanta on the map...not only because they are the greatest hip-hop duo of all time!!! lol Maybe next to Run DMC.
