I really like Fela Kuti for the original funky stuff (Nigerian), and I also have Gil & Jorge on continuous rotation at the moment (Brazilian collaboration between Gilberto Gil and Jorge Ben - just the two of them improvising with songs and acoustic guitars, one of my favourite albums). Check'em out.

Ali farka toure has some nice releases, his style has been called african blues, Fela of course!!, Youssou n'Dour, Boukman Eksperyans, Nusrat Fetah Ali Kahn, & the world saxophone quartet rocks although the leader of the group is american (David Murray) their sounds are a combo of Jazz and african rhythms very intense. Mango has a lot of nice comps out, I can go on and on, I love world music actually it's some of the more interesting music being created at the moment IMO, a lot of american artist are incorporating this sound into their projects, Bill Frisell has an interesting thing going on now that's worth a listen. Dub, bossanova, flamenco, and alot of other sounds bless my collection also.

Here's my recommendation to any fan of Brazillian dance or Neo-Soul. Check out this act called ZUCO 103. Their latest release is called "Tales of High Fever" and is sure to get the party going.

I love their last release outro lado, If you like them you should check out Suba Sao Paulo confessions, they kinda have the same formula going on electronica meets brazillian rythms.

Under the genre of "World Music" at Radio@netscape.com I've been listening to African music. It's such a refreshing change of pace.
