If "Pablo Picasso" is a cover, and it's the cover I think it is, I will die a happy man.
Because, you know, Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole...

Because, you know, Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole... That song Pablo Picasso was originally recorded by Jonathan Richmond and the Modern Lovers produced by John Cale. WHAT IF THERE IS NO TOMORROW? THERE WASN'T ONE TODAY!

It's fucking weird. Very Bowie, indeed. If the album name wasn't Reality, this cover would blow. But as such, it's very fitting. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I'm not thrilled with it. I think this may be his first album cover that's not a photo of him, or a photorealistic illustration. I don't think this was a good choice to break the tradition...
I remember seeing the cover of "Heathen" for first time and going into psychoerotic shock. THAT is a beautiful album cover. This? Eh. It's okay. Not into the whole Japanimation look, and the whole thing looks a bit too sparse. I'm sure it'll grow on me, but I hope it's not the final product.

Hey, if the cover's better than that for Never Let Me Down, then I'm all for it! Heathen was one of my favorites, though! "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I just heard it described as a Keane painting battling with Ditko-era Dr. Strange in a Salvador Dali landscape, with a cameo by Ayn Rand.
Works for me. | |

not crazy about the cover.
hell, i don't like a manga influence in the COMIC BOOKS i read (where it would seem tolerable). i'm not excited about rock stars adopting it (first madonna's drowned world tour, now bowie).

Well you just had to make the obvious contradiction between the cover and the album title, didn't you Mr. Jones? It would have been much more refreshing if the album would have been INDEED about reality as it is, not just some VR wordplay.
I got the tickets for the tour though.

I like the cover of his new album, although it's not his best.
The only thing i think should be taken out is the green lizzard (?) next to his arm. What is that supposed to be? WHAT IF THERE IS NO TOMORROW? THERE WASN'T ONE TODAY!

07/08/03 NEWS: BOWIE'S NEW ALBUM IS NOW A REALITY
You fall for Reality... We are immensely proud to be able to give you an exclusive peek at the artwork for David Bowie's 26th studio album, Reality, and the final tracklisting for the release which is due on September 15th. The sleeve features the combined talents of Rex Ray (who you all know and love for his work on many previous Bowie projects) and typographer Jonathan Barnbrook, who also worked on Heathen. Reality is the fourth Bowie studio album to feature a painted image of David on the cover, (the first three being Diamond Dogs, Scary Monsters and, of course, Outside ) and we hope to bring you some of the ideas behind the construction of this sleeve in the very near future. Here follows the definite final tracklisting for Reality: 01 New Killer Star 02 Pablo Picasso 03 Never Get Old 04 The Loneliest Guy 05 Looking for Water 06 She'll Drive the Big Car 07 Days 08 Fall Dog Bombs The Moon 09 Try Some, Buy Some 10 Reality 11 Bring Me The Disco King Some of you may already be familiar with at least four of the titles on Reality for various reasons. There are two cover versions on the album, the first being Jonathan Richman's Pablo Picasso, (Also covered by John Cale on his Helen Of Troy album) and the second being the George Harrison song Try Some, Buy Some, which was released on George's 1973 album Living In The Material World. Ronnie Spector also released a version of the song as a single on the Apple label. The other two songs you may be aware of on Reality are both Bowie originals: Never Get Old and Bring Me The Disco King. The former was used in the recent Vittel advert, and the latter is a song that David has tackled before, but hasn't been happy with until now. We are hoping to bring BowieNet members exclusive snippets of some of the tracks on Reality ahead of it's release in September, so stay tuned to BowieNet.

Maybe I can get through this one without dozing off, but not likely... Atleast there are no Iggy Pop covers or Lester Bowie cameos... Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

Great news.
I kind of 'got into' Bowie after the release of his last album 'Heathen'. His back catalouge is so vast, I don't even know where to start. I'll be getting 'Reality' though. Who else here thinks 'Cactus' and 'I would be your slave' from 'Heathen' are something else?

I wonder if it will have any videos becuase I don't think "Heathen" did. Sounds exciting either way. I would just like to hear (and maybe see) the first single (I know radio won't touch it becuase they didn't last time). [This message was edited Thu Jul 10 5:30:28 PDT 2003 by VinnyM27]
