Billy Joel- A Modern Woman This was one of my favorite tracks from Billy. This song had a hard hitting groove to it that I really like. This was from the 1986 movie Ruthless People starring Danny Devito and Bette Midler. Great lyrics too, in which Joel tries to "school" old-fashion men stuck in their old-fashioned ways and attitudes about women. He's trying to get them to stand up and "face the facts of modern woman". I particularly like a few lines in the second verse...
"She got style, she got her own money, so she's not another honey you can quickly disown, she got those EYES to make you realize, she won't be hypnotized by your usual charm". Great stuff!!! People give a lot of attention to Joel with songs like "Only The Good Die Young, "Allentown and "Just The Way You Are". But this song is often overlooked by Joel. A shame too, cause it has a nice groove with great lyrical content. I wonder was he trying to emulate Lil Man/Prince at the end of the song when he starts screaming. Good song, and it came from a great, underrated album, too (1986's The Bridge). | |
