I wouldn't buy it. It's pretty crap really - only worth watching for the soundtrack.
Not one of Spike Lee's better efforts. Now 25th Hour, that's a different matter ...

The movie is "aiight" but not at all reflective of the phone sex biz. I actually owned and operated one along with my now wifie. The movie paints a picture that is nothing like the real deal. Moderator | Madonna was in it for a brief second.
And no the movie was not really good. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

I really liked the movie
but I hated the end scene Spike reminds me of Prince a lot of the time, he just doesn't know when to stop himself... and the Madonna 'cameo' was perfect...I loved her scene

Depends on the price. I really liked it. It was cool and funny. It's worth a rent for sure!

Out of all of SPikes movies Ive seen (havent seen Malcom X yet - but must get 'round 2 it) It's the only one Ive actually liked - the others were ok, but ok dont cut it 4 me. I find his work overlong, basically very self-indulgant. He doesnt know when 2 edit himself: (as I think Joshy said earlier, much like a certain P...)

What do u guys think? A lot of people criticized it, but to me, Spike Lee is a pure genius. The cinematography (done by Malik Sayeed) is absolutely phenomenal!!! I'd buy it, but that doesn't mean you should. Try checking it out first and see how you like it.

'Girl 6' is an interesting film...kinda weird at times, but it will hold your attention.Hearing Prince tunes non-stop is a real treat, and the Madonna cameo is outrageous

I LOVE THIS MOVE SOOO MUCH
The girl is sooo beautiful, what's her name? She looks like Janet a bit, It's like a blaxplotatious 90's movie, there is a lot of metaphors in the movie and it is shot really nicely I love the scence with "LOVELY" sitting at Coney Island all dressed in black while "Why didn't you call me" played in the background, That song blew my mind (Alicia did it no justice) and Pink cashmere This is probably one of my favourite movies ever

personally, i didn't think it was one of spike's best projects but that dosen't mean that it might not work for you!
i think it's worth a rent, but maybe not worth a buy. check it out first via rental, then you can decide if it's worth dropping the dough to add to your movie collection. the sountrack is too fab, though. definitely a must-have.

I really quite enjoyed this movie - it wasn't "Do The Right Thing", but it wasn't supposed to be - it was supposed to be a fun, light romp that gets a bit intense at by the end and attempts a little bit of updated "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" commentary about sexuality gone out of bounds (or something like that)...I typically don't like cautionary tales about sexual freedom, they always come off prudish and teachy to me, but this movie was playful enough not to come off as overly puritan.
The wall-to-wall Prince soundtrack didn't hurt, either. And Madonna's cameo is a rare case of her actually being really fun and entertaining in an acting role - she was sexy and campy and silly, and I loved it. True story: when I first saw this movie, I was living in NYC and housesitting for a friend in the East Village, on East 4th Street...at the end of the movie, when the stalker calls Girl 6 at her home and says he knows her address and is coming over, and then said her address, I swear to you IT WAS THE EXACT SAME ADDRESS AS THE BUILDING I WAS IN. Now THAT was freakin' skeevy!!! Still and all, I enjoyed the movie, I actually listen to the soundtrack fairly regularly, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to see a fun, not-too-terribly-deep movie with lots of Prince music.

I think Spike is being censored because of his anti-war views. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I thought the visuals that accompanied The Cross in this movie were excellent...her suffering emotional suffocation whilst a song about redemption plays on...what a pseud I am! A wonderful piece of film.

Okay, I look at movies like School Daze and Jungle Fever and Summer of Sam and 25th Hour and say you're right on w/ "okay" assessment. But when you lump "Do The Right Thing," "Mo'Better Blues," "Get on the Bus" and "Crooklyn" into "okay." you're kidding yourself. Those were very good-to-great movies, with "Do The Right Thing" and "Malcolm X" in the "classic" category. "Girl 6" was SLAW. The Prince music was the ONLY thing that made it marginally watchable.
