I listen to all types of music. I mean, I've gone to concerts by U2, Public Image Ltd, Fishbone, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Living Colour, Lene Lovich, the Eurythmics, Simple Minds, the Pretenders... I even went to the first Lollapalooza. I like classical, and even Oriental classical music.

My favorite music happens to be R&B and I'll always contribute to a thread on that subject. However, that doesn't mean that I won't add my two cents to a non-R&B thread.

My thing is... If a person is not interested in a certain type of music, ignore the thread. We're here because Prince brings us together. He's not putting a gun to our heads and saying, "Now listen to the same music, damnit!" smile He's been influenced by different genres, his music reflects this. It only seems natural that he would have a fan base that reflects a combination of musical styles as well.

Well said Deb. But I this thread has gone down a different path than I had intended it to. This isn't about what type of music that's being discussed more than it is about actually "discussing" it. Less lists and more discussions would be nice.

Well, the solution is seemingly obvious. Put up or shut up wink. You wanna see more discussions about non-R&B artists, offer 'em up. If they can't survive the mini-marketplace of ideas we've got going here then perhaps they aren't worth discussing. Just my twocents

The recent Radiohead threads generated a decent number of responses. I responded a few times out of curiosity. I'd heard about them in passing but wanted to know what the buzz was all about. I mentioned the band to a classmate and she brought in a CD. I wasn't feeling much of it, though there was one song that was okay. (But, that's just my opinion.) Never once did I say "Enough already! Can't you put on some P-funk!?!" (Actually, on the first day of class the professor played some old school. I was clearly in the minority of persons who enjoyed it.) Ever since then, the same classmate made herself the designated DJ. She played stuff that I would never listen to (with the exception of the Beatles) but tolerated. I mean, just because her tastes didn't reflect mind was no reason for me to diss her musical choices.

Not sure if this is directed at me but I'm not asking for more threads on non R&B music. R&B is my thang.
