Adriana Evans- Trippin...Excellent Track

A song that should have been released as a single and should have became a hit...from an album in 97...that should have been a great commercial success.

This is a nice laid back R&B track dealing with holding firms to one's dreams and aspirations, the joys of meditation and getting into one's inner self through the "purification of their minds"...Some deep stuff going on here...INDEED.

I personally felt this album deserved a better commercial fate. I however felt she released this album simply called Adriana Evans at a time when the R&B world was in an uproar about a another new artist Erykah Badu and her record Baduizm...even so this song with it's gorgeous horn charts and sophisticated musical instrumentation is a great achievement. Nice stuff!!!

Check it out some time, this sista has a beautiful voice and uses it to great effect on this winning track. I recall seeing her short mini-concert on this BET special{back in 1997} performing some songs live from her album.

Funny that you posted about Miss Evans, I was playing that CD this VERY morning while cleaning the crib. HA! biggrin

Do you know that she's the daughter of Mary Stallings? This woman is a jazz vocalist who used to hang out and jam with Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie.

I remember when she 1st came out, critics where making a comparision between her and N'dea Davenport, Erykah Badu and Amil Lurrex or something(sp?) since both have the same "hynotic" vibe going on with their music and how they deliever it.

I love everything about that album simply becoz its very "simple" in terms of how they handled the production and its heavly funk/jazz influenced. I love the song "Reality" cuz it sounds like a tribute 2 an early vibist Roy Ayers and I'm rewinding "Heaven" like crazy. Also there's a positive message behind the song "Hey Brother".

Nice 2 know someone dig Adriana besides me smile

Don't even get me started with this!! Damn, this song is so AWESOME! I got the chills just writing about it. Now I'm gonna listen.

The opening chords of the guitar selflessly strumming their way into your heart. Then that pure unadulterated voice...

"Take a trip, and trip inside your mind from where you are.
Make a wish, and wish upon a star from near or far.
I keep hoping for a dream
I keep searching for the miracle in you.
You can feel the destiny
If you hold on tight, the dream will carry you.

Trippin through your mind..."

I have this song on a compilation theme CD dealing with, what else...Love. This is still one of my favorite albums! It's so sad that she was totally slept on because this album is just amazing. Love Is All Around, Heaven, Swimming, In The Sun...these are simply awesome songs. The whole album is excellent. You rarely hear a voice this powerful and beautiful. It's sad that this release was allowed to fall through the cracks. I'm glad that others out there found what I found. It's a beautiful gem amongst the garbage.

This album got me through one of the hardest times in my life. I had been dealing with apendicitis and didn't know it and I was sick as a dog, literally on deaths doorstep and this album brought me the most intense comfort during that time.

I strongly suggest checking out N'Dea Davenports self titled CD. I bought that around the same time as Adriana's album and they both brought me so much comfort at the time I mentioned above.

Another great album, but it's out of print, is Bridgette McWilliams "Too Much Woman". Another great voice and another great album that fell through the cracks. I found a copy at in the used section.

Many folks slept on her after she splited from "Brand New Heavies" thinking that her solo shit would be weaker since they(the band) didn't back her up on this.

Underneath a Read Moon & When the Night Falls are my faves and good call on "Bullshittin" I used to play that song like crazy when I 1st bought the LP nod
