Is this a test? I always thought that was a Marley Marl original.

I'm SO glad someone has started such a thread. At work I listen to soul stations and man it's like all day I'm hearing hooks that have been sampled in hip-hop. I'm like, "Oh, snap! I didn't know this was the original beat!" Sometimes I write them down. I've heard where Salt & Pepa got their "shoop" hook (can't remember the name of the song, though.) Lee Fields' "Problems" was sampled by Pharcyde in "She Keeps on Passing Me By." There was this song (can't think of the rapper) that sampled Sammy Davis Jr.'s "The Shelter Of Your Arms" it began: In this cold world no matter where I go the clouds are all the same. I had no idea that was Sammy's song! I'm tellin' you, you can't go wrong listing to the old joints! thumbs up! smile

Funny, but when I hear a hip-hop song with a funky beat, I always think it's a sampled beat. I have a tendency to ID the sampled beat in many songs, although there are some that I'm stumped by.

Okay, back to the question... Gosh! I'd have to hear that cut. Thinking back though, Eric B. & Rakim sampled James Brown, so I'm guessing it's a JB sample. (I've really got to hear the song, though.)

Okay, so I went to bmgmusic.com to hear a sample of "President" and I'm thinkin... "This sounds like Fonda Rae's "Over like a Fat Rat." But, then I'm thinking... "Nah, that beat can't be an original Fonda Rae beat." But, your "clue" looks like "Over Like a Fat Rat." So, that's my answer, and I'm stickin' 2 it!!! smile
