22 Greatest MCs

MTV is once again showing their irrelevancy tonight with the 22 Greatest MCs show. Blowing their load at the start with Chuck D at number 22 was bad enough, but once I saw Nelly in the top 20, i knew this was a joke.

Who are the top 5 greatest MCs?

5. Del the Funky Homosapien
4. Rakim
3. Snoop Dogg
2. Chuck D
1. Easy E

I know, I know. I actually just couldnt think of another and Easy was always my favorite for whatever reason.

On the list I had, KRS-One would have been #6, with Gangstarr and Biggie in there. Gangstarr doesnt always get the credit they deserve. I love the smooth grooves. Common was on the list though around #20.

The point is, KRS-One barely made the top 20, Nelly was a few lower than that and Chuck D was #22.
Why does MTV have no idea what they are talking about? Cant they get some better information for a show like this?

In rough order:
Rakim
KRS-ONE
Chuck D
Notorious B.I.G.
Mos Def
Kelvin Mercer a/k/a Plug One (maybe the most slept-on emcee in hip-hop . . . if he went bling-bling he would have BLOWN UP!)
Common (Sense)
D.M.C.
Ice Cube
Redman
LL Cool J
Guru
Nas
Q-Tip
Jay Z
MC Lyte
Lauryn Hill (she likely made hip-hop's Songs in the Key of Life)
Busta Rhymes (if he didn't do another cut after "Scenario" his place in hip-hop history would still be secure)
Tupac Shakur
Ghostface Killah
The D.O.C. (career tragically cut short but arguably the most gifted West Coast emcee ever)

I'd also like to throw in mentions for Ish (Digable Planets), Jeru The Damaja, Black Thought, Raekwon.
