Why do more people like Billy Jean than Rock With You

IMO Rock With You is so much better as a song. Billy Jean always gets the props as Michael's best solo effort and I have to differ. Billy Jean is a better video and the song started the mass appeal Michael but is it his best?

Am I the only one who is partial to the Off the Wall tracks? Yes, less popular but better tracks.

I think it's both the video and the fact Thriller was the ultimate crossover sensation. There might be a ton of people who heard Don't Stop til You Get Enough, but not much else until Billie Jean. So that song may have made them really get into MJ. The grammy's for Off the Wall were for Soul/R&B if i recall correctly. Aside from 'The Lady In My Life', I play Off the Wall tracks way more often...

puh-lease, he had me with off the wall lol

i just think that he has had incredible moments through his entire career! smooth criminal, billie jean, workin' day and night, don't stop...they are all great. keep it the closet...there's tons of em. i just prefer billie jean over rock with you because it has a funkier bass line and does't sound as disco. or disco lite, if you will. lol

imo 'off the wall' is THE michael jackson album.

but 'billie jean' has much more funk and attitude than the cliche love-track 'rock with you'.. it's too.. happy.
don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain
i'm high, so high

"Billie Jean" is a classic pop song.It just takes your breath away. That memorable bass line, those haunting synth lines, those tension-filled,paranoid lyrics, and Michael's effective lead vocal just *GRABS* you and never lets go.I remember hearing it for the first time in early 1983 and being totally mesmerized. There wasn't anything else like it on the radio. And it's a very unique song too.The dark lyrics deal with a woman who is stalking MJ,claiming that he is the father of her son. That's not your average Top 40 bubblegum hit...lol...

"Rock With You" is a great song too,but not nearly as deep and inventive as "Billie Jean".

Billie Jean is a great song and Rock with you, too.I think rock with you has a nicer melodie but with billie jean you get a strange feeling, don't you.You can better dance on it but rock with you is much happier.
I don't know which is better. Both are very good!!! clapping

Rock w/ You worship

I think p fans generally prefer Off the Wall 2 all the later stufff. Thriller 7 Dangerous have a few good trax but that's about it.

OTW worship

I prefer OTW to Thriller, but Rock WIth You is one of MJ's most overrated songs in my opinion. It gets FAR too much praise, is ALWAYS on the radio even now, and sooo many people cover it. It's a very nice, run of the mill pop groove, but nowhere near one of my favs.

Are you all on crack? Billie Jean is a masterpiece--listen to all the subtleties on headphones--the buildup of the synths, that amazing chorus. Rock With You is merely a good song. Not even close guys. Billie Jean is original and cutting edge. You all need to see a shrink. lol.

Billie Jean is a strong candidate for the greatest song of all time, and i'm not fucking joking either.I must have listened to it 1000's of times, and never turned it off halfway, or got bored.Michael's lead vocals were done first take too, It still gets a great reception when played in clubs, and look at all the unofficial remixes of it, there's loads. That song is loved!

I skip Rock with You and go straight to Workin'.

nod on both counts.

Just the fact that Workin' Day & Night kicks Rock With You's ass into the sky... I mean you HAVE to skip it knowing what song is coming next. There's no way I'd skip Billie Jean, EVER. It's not the MJ song I would purposely put a CD in the player for, simply because I've heard it a million times - but when it eventually comes on, the genius of it all comes flooding back.

"Billie Jean is a strong candidate for the greatest song of all time"

It's definitely one of the best songs of the 80s.

Let's be honest,guys...how many of you used to play this song when no one was around, and try to do the same moves that MJ did? did you put on a white glove and try to do the moonwalk? Be honest!
