Its a sad day when it takes all the way down here for somebody to mention the greatest rock vocalist in the world, Mike Patton.

His versatility is unmatched and the only person that comes close is Prince himself. From deep and soulful to high to screaming his freaking head off, he cannot be beat.

hmm...tough to define.. how about some Rock n Rollers with voices as opposed to RnR voices? hmm

trying to stick to chronological order:

Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Otis Redding, Stevie Nicks, that dark-haired guy from the Eagles who sang 'I can't tell u why' duh, Freddie Mercury, Paul Stanley, Rod Stewart, Ann Wilson (? from Heart), Rick James, Steve Perry, Sebastien Bach, Michael Jackson, Darryl Hall, Terence Trent D'arby/Sananda, Michael Hutchence, Eddie Vedder, Jeffrey Gaines

The lead singer from Metallica is one I'm tempted to list just b/c its so distinctive, but I decided not to comment on artists my ears are not as familiar with, like Plant and Halford for instance. I left out the guy from Def Leppard, b/c I've read people saying he's a bit of a Plant knockoff (?), lol but I think he can sing a little.

Oh, I agree Otis qualifies as a rock n roll singer, but I don't think Al Green does. Of course, both are soul singers, but soul voices are the ones emulated by guys like Steven Tyler...so it gets back to how do u define rock. we could go on for days on that one shrug

oh man, how could i forget Tina Turner and Bonnie Raitt? its really tough to say what's not rock, its more a feeling than a rigid boundary anyway right?

this is just my .02 according to my ears... u dig? fro
