Madonna Fans Pre-1993

i don't know about you but i am so glad to have been a madonna fan prior to 1993! i mean, i guess she is still fun now, but in a completely different way. remember back in the day when erotica and sex were coming out? all that hype behind the book. the different looks she was sporting...disco, hippy, glam, club kid...all within a year! she was so much fun back then. like a spoiled kid on a mission for attention. she was trouble...in a playful kinda way. now, don't get me wrong, i'm not taking digs on her current incarnation. i'm just saying it was different. if i was a young kid today there would be nothing pulling me towards her. she wouldn't be a rebel (in my mind). she was then. the music was fun, the image was great. and she always gave us something to talk about. now i'm still talking about her, but more in nostalgic terms rather than current affairs. i will always be interested in her but something is missing. i guess we all have to change, but damn...getting older sucks sometimes!

falloff It's ok pat I feel that way at times. But, one of the MANY things about Madonna I love is that she's always got something up her sleeve! wink She'll continue to give us all something to talk about or gawk at. I've never been shocked by her..then or now. I just accept what she does. But I love seeing other peple's reaction when she comes out with a video, movie, song, etc...

I understand what you mean! There was so much more excitement with Madonna in the old days.I still remember the crazy time just before the 'Blond Ambition' tour began.I'm watching MTV and Downtown Julie Brown (remember her?) says "Tomorrow,we will have the world premiere of Madonna's new "Vogue" video, but right now we have a special treat. Here is Madonna and her dancers in rehaearsal for her upcoming tour!!".They then showed Maddy lip-syncing the song "Vogue" with her dancers,as they went through the routines. It was so exciting!! That's how it used to be with Maddy...always a new "exclusive" video, look, style, song, single, magazine cover, shocking interview, whatever. And she was always changing,it was hard to keep up with her.The years 1990-1993 were the most exciting years to be a Madonna fan, imo.

But,things change.Madonna has matured and grown.I think her main priority these days is her husband and her two children and that's the way it should be.I like her new outlook on life.I think she's much more happier than she was back then. She seems to be at peace. But,unlike some artists who become "enlightened",she hasn't lost her sense of adventure and her ability to be provocative. She still creates interesting music too.But I'm not gonna lie,I get VERY nostalgic when I play those old songs. That was such a magical time!

During the early-mid 80's (around the time of "Everybody") I saw a photo of Madonna in the Village Voice. She was wearing a vintage tweed overcoat with pajamas underneath (at least that's what the caption said). I cut out the picture in the event that she might blow up one day, and I'd have it as an "I remember when..." souvenir.

Do you remember her first appearance on "American Bandstand" in 1983? She sang the song "Holiday" and when Dick Clark interviewed her,she said something about wanting to "conquer the world" (can't recall her exact words). But I bet alot of people were like "yeah,right"...lol...they all thought she would be over in six months.

Not quite. In the years 1995-2003,Madonna had her biggest hit single EVER ("Take A Bow",1995),she starred in the biggest movie role of her career ("Evita",1996),won lots of critical acclaim and a Golden Globe for that film (1996-97),recorded her most critically acclaimed album EVER ('Ray Of Light',1998),won several Grammys for it (1999),recorded another multi-platinum album ('Music',2000),went on a hugely successful,sold-out world tour (Drowned World Tour,2001),recorded a Top 10 smash theme song from the hugely successful James Bond film,'Die Another Day'(2002),and her latest CD 'American Life' has already sold over 4 million copies worldwide, debuting at Number One in over a dozen different countries.

Any questions? wink

OK, Mr. Billboard Magazine! lol I was speaking for myself. In a world where N'Sync and J-Ho are hot music acts, there's just no accounting for taste. I'm more interested in what Prince, Tori Amos, U2, and Radiohead have to say about things. And as for the Kabballah...good grief, woman!

4 million copies is bit excessive, considering it shipped 1.6 in the first week and was having trouble selling those cd's out of store, it has barely touched 2 million,
Still sale that doesn't mean an album is bad or good (in this case it's real bad LOL)

Anyway anyone is succesfull as long as they can make a living off their music, I know alot people who wish they could sell 2 million copies of an album.
4 million I don't think so, It may sell that amount in total once it has run it's course

davideye...how did you get the info regarding sales for AL? i know here in the states the record has not gone gold yet, unless it just went in the past few days. my friends in the uk are telling me that she is a joke over there with this new image and record. i'm not saying i agree, because as we've discussed before, i like the new disc. just wondering where you got that info from.

Re-read my post.I said that the album has sold over four million copies *worldwide*.Yes,it tumbled down the charts in the U.S.,but the album is a big hit in almost every other country. In fact,it's still in the Top 10 in several other countries.Believe it or not, there is a world outside the U.S. smile

I have a very "reliable source" who is in a position to know these things smile

Maddy's CD is not exactly a blockbuster here in the States, but the overall (worldwide) record sales are respectable.According to my "source",Warners is very confident about this CD and they have a year-long promotional campaign. Two more singles will be released.

LOL...it's cool.I was just trying to point out that, contrary to popular opinion,Maddy has had alot of success from 1995 to the present.Unlike most of the "hot" stars from the 80s,she has pretty much maintained her success and popularity. If she were to announce a world tour tomorrow,it would be sheer pandemonium all over again.

when did madonna say this? i've been paying attention (chuckle) and all i've heard was madonna saying that she would do more hits IF she did a tour because she felt the last tour was too self involved. has she been more specific since?
