RADIOHEAD NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES 2003

Radiohead has confirmed 19 North American tour dates for late summer and early fall. As first tipped here, the first leg will begin Aug. 13 outside Boston, with support from Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. A second leg kicks off Sept. 23 outside San Francisco, with support from Supergrass.

Tickets for 11 of the first 12 shows go on sale June 21; as usual, Radiohead's online fan organization Waste is also offering tickets to its members.

"We're just poked around and tried to remember which of the sheds we've liked," guitarist Jonny Greenwood tells Billboard.com of the itinerary, which will be held mostly in outdoor venues. "We're picking and choosing."

Radiohead will be touring in support of its latest Capitol album, "Hail to the Thief," which is expected to debut later this week in the upper reaches of The Billboard 200. The set opened yesterday (June 15) at No. 1 in the U.K.

Before arriving in North America, Radiohead will spend six weeks playing headlining dates and festivals in Europe. The group will also appear Aug. 2-3 at the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan.

More dates in 2004 are possible, according to the band's agent, Carole Kinzel. "Radiohead is very active in planning every aspect of its career," she tells Billboard.com. "But the conversations about next year really haven't taken place as of yet. That doesn't mean they won't [return in 2004]. Right now the focus is on 2003. Certainly we would love to have them come back. Their fan base in North America is enormous."

Here are Radiohead's North American tour dates:

Aug. 13: Mansfield, Mass. (Tweeter Center)
Aug. 15: Montreal (Parc Jean Drapeau)

Are you sure about that August 24th date? I'm pretty sure the UMB bank pavilion is the old Riverport ampitheatre in the St. Louis area.

ok, i'm so upset with all of this. i move to chicago (where every band loves to play) and i can't get a job to save my ass. then blur tix go on sale and i can't afford them. now radiohead is touring and not only can i not afford tix but even if i could, they are not coming to chicago! and to make it all worse, they ARE playing philadelphia (where i just moved from) when they haven't played philly in years and years! i can't seem to win in middle america. i must've left my luck in atlantic city! sad
