Radiohead have been a 'hip band' for years- I really quite like them, but are drastically overrated, and Q magazine are almost sickening in the way they fawn over them

I'm not saying that all bands should be funky. I'm saying that I don't look to Radiohead as being particularly funky. They're a good group, but if you want the funk, then look elsewhere. If they wanna produce progressive (sometimes bland) soundscapes then that's their choice. I'm just going to leave it at that.

They really aren't...

Bland soundscapes? These soundscapes are everything but bland.

That's it. I've made my points. I don't wanna have to anger anyone else, so I'll just bow out gracefully now. I will, however, say this: Funk is not everything, I know. It's just a genre that Funkynose and I happen to love. But I don't care if a band like Radiohead lacks this. I mean, they are what they are. Without a doubt, they are one of the most popular and groundbreaking Alternative acts today, and I respect them for that. I didn't come here with a biased opinion about them, cuz I like some of their stuff myself (but there's also stuff of theirs I dislike as well.). I just said that I used to bitch about them not performing a musical style of my preferrence. But later I realized that it's their choice in what they play. That's all.

SINCE WHEN DOES MUSIC NEED GROOVES AND FUNK??? Can somebody just answer that for me? I keep reading people saying that shit, and it's fucking pathetic. There are other types of music, you know? And if all you hear is "misplaced noises," maybe you should get your speakers/headphones fixed. Or buy a fucking hearing aid.

I agree.

I hate it when people say, "How can you listen to this. It's not even funky." As if that's the only kind of music there is.

Ok COMPUTER

KID A

AMNESIAC

I MIGHT BE WRONG

HAIL TO THE THIEF

Those 5 cd's are truely amazing, especially Kid A.. And I highly recommend Amnesiac, because I believe those tracks are from the same sessions.. (Correct me if im wrong)

I think OK Computer is a nice place to start the radiohead venturing.. If u dig that, u should be able to get in2 their new stuff.. Kid A is highly experimental, but it is easily the "masterpiece" of their career. The new cd will is pretty amazing also.

These guys are talented..

Someone said this about the Smiths, New Order, Depeche Mode thread - that it was tuneless, soulless, grooveless music. I just laughed.

I had never heard Radiohead until Kid A came out.

I was blown away. That's the best album I've heard in about a decade.

(Haven't had a chance to pick up the new one yet, but I'm excited to hear it.)

Radiohead is good to put me to sleep. What boring, depressing, overrated crap. Thom Yorke is a whiney biatch.

Its just like a lot of indie music out now. Nothing but boring whiney crap. Stop whining and give us a beat. Give us something besides your crying.

The Dismemberment Plan and The Flaming Lips mop the floor with Radiohead.

I can imagine that in Dallas, TX you rather listen to other music ('don't break my heart, my achy, breaky heart...')... You can say anything about Radiohead, but they are not boring. Thom's voice is one to get used to.

Kid A sucked. Amnesiac was much better. So was Pablo Honey.

I really can't imaging the opening chords of KidA not having the ability to sweep you away into this awesome trip. I can't fathom it at all. Perhaps you should get high and let this thing work it's magic on you.

I'm sorry, dude, but I don't get high. But I'm still sticking to my story, which is Kid A SUCKED!!! shake
But you know, that really wasn't the point. Our friend, FunkyNose, was complaining about Radiohead lacking the funk. And while I do concur, I don't think that's what the band set out to do. I think they were trying to be the Pink Floyd of their time. But even Pink Floyd had their funky moments. I mean, doesn't "The Wall" wanna make you get up and shake that thang?

PS...I don't get high and haven't since before I started to really get into Radiohead, so it's not a necessary ingredient, AT ALL.

Also, when I've seen them live, you can bet your ass they made me "shake that thang." The energy of the KID A and Amnesiac tracks is only hinted at on the CDs. To see them done live helped me truly appreciate how brilliant those songs were and the whole show just made me move.

Yup. You nailed it, big guy. You hit that one right on the fucking bullseye.

I'll be back later...I have to go home and lick my cat's butt now. After all, I need some drama in my life.

There have been some stupid, stupid posts on the .Org before. This one, however, may take the cake. Congratulations, Mr. Janeau. You have amazed us all.

That's a little too esoteric for me. I don't want my music to be like rocket science.

Last night, my classmate brought in a Portishead CD. It wasn't bad. smile
