Just Another Song About, Vol. 1: Fleetwood Mac's "Thrown Down" Here's a Stevie Nicks penned song from the latest Fleetwood Mac album, "Say You Will"
I'll post the lyrics. You tell me what you think it be bout! --- THROWN DOWN He fell for her again She watched it happen Everyday, day by day But more important Night by night She watched it all come into play He held her hands She listened to what he had to say (chorus) Thrown down Like a barricade Maybe now he could prove to her That he could be good for her That they should be together I've shaken your faith in me, no You've shaken my faith In everything else A decision no one made And now you're going home Faith is a hard thing To hold on to Something inside you says I don't have to Youre not like other people You do what you want to You're not like other people You do what you want to repeat chorus You say you're sorry Now you should walk away But its so overwhelming You have nothing left to say You can sit outside his door and wait Well, you can dedicate your pain to him repeat chorus About just how much he never really told her Thrown down About how difficult it had been To be without her Thrown down --- My case: I think the joint is about John and Christine on the tour. I think its from Stevie's perspective. Maybe Christine moved on and John didn't? Also the song makes references to someone leaving. "A decision no one made, and now you're going home" - I think, is a reference to Christine not rejoining the band. And the finality of it. She's not like other people, she does what she WANTS to. I know some folk would say its about Lindsey and Stevie, but I can't see Lindsey falling THAT DEEP for Stevie again. The guy is married and has kids, plus I think that with Say You Will and Destiny Rules, Stevie's got enough songs going to Lindsey. Takers?

At first yeah I thought it was about Stevie and Lindsay BUT it does sound like a 3rd person viewpoint like she's on the outside looking in so yeah I guess it could be about Christine and John, that band was so full of dynamics what a fertile ground for lyricists ? We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

More of my case:
I think the part "You can dedicate your pain to him" is a plea from Stevie to Christine to stay in the band. Maybe it got overwhelming for Christine and this was Stevie's way of saying 'hey.. do what we always do. turn it into a song.' And yeah Butterfli, I love that they always took the TRUTH and made art out of it. It's another reason why I love Wendy And Lisa's first album so much. It was SOOO honest. And for the man to come back with little or nothing. And then years later to come out with Inthisbediscream? I kinda wanted to hear his side more. And after hearing the original version of Old Friends 4 Sale and Hello? You can't convince me that Prince doesn't know how to make art out of Truth.

okok... MAYBE you're right. lol. i'm curious though.. what is your source of info? Sorry that came out rude didn't it...lol? didnt mean it to--Call it being on like 3 different Stevie Nicks' message boards and reading waaay too many SYW promotion interviews with the band. From what STevie has said in various interviews recently, THrown Down, SMile at You, Destiny Rules, Goodbye Baby are about Lindsey. Good bye Baby (was known as "The Tower"--very popular demo from the 70s) and SMile at You were written in the mid 70s. Running through the garden was originally slated for her 1985 album ROck a little -- the demo fo rthat is amazing! Silver girl is about sheryl crow, say you will is about christine and everybody finds out, i'm not sure but my guess is it's about her late 70s affair with mick fleetwood.
