The name of the band is Jack Johnson, though when I do a search on this name all I get is some singer. Anyways I do know the band exist for sure they've played a couple of shows here and there but have no released material. Maybe they're just testing the waters. Mos must've been inspired by his track Rock N roll on black on both sides. I am to anxious to hear this project let alone anything new from mos def. If anyone knows of more info regarding this band please post.
I think they're now calling it Black Jack Johnson. Former Bad Brains guitarist, Dr.Know is also in the band: http://www.mosdefinitely....ckjack.htm

there are many different kinds of "black rock" (for lack of a better word). There is the nu-metal, rapping over hard rock music. Bands like Shooteez Groove, Hed(pe), 2 Skinnee J's and the originators Stuck Mojo. Besides Stuck Mojo, Im really not into that stuff too much though. Then you got the hard rocking bands that just happen to have a black guy singing like Sevendust. Weapon of Choice is has some choice cuts. And, I mentioned in another thread, Super 8. They had one song that kind of tried to become a hit but really didnt. They are one of my favorites of that genre. They are a little more mellow and the lead singer also has a solo album under the name "Khaleel" which is pretty good also. I met Super 8 about 7 yrs ago and they were white

Hello?
FUNKADELIC! ! ! ! ! From Cosmic Slop to Maggot Brain to MANY OTHER ROCK jams that simply escape me at this moment.. FUNKADELIC must be considered as the "standard" of "black rock". Just LISTEN to Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On.. It's crazy that bands like FUNKADELIC & others mentioned in this thread have gotten little if any props for their work.. ..those rock & roll "tastemakers" (=dj's, record promoters, etc.) let Jimi through the door, & after him, not too many others.. so you have at least a whole generation of male caucasians thinking " 'black' bands can't make 'real' rock & roll" when in fact "rock & roll" was invented by a "colored" musician way back in the day.. "black" rock bands- DAMN GOOD, KICK-ASS rock bands- have ALWAYS existed.. certain people just made sure the "general public" was not exposed to them. I'll see you tonight..

Check out The Eric Gales Band. Awesome guitar player. He actually got played on a "Rock Radio" station last month in my area. They did a segment on black rock bands and they gave EG most props. It was a pleasant surprise.
Actually, I consider the Isley Brothers a rock 'n roll band as well as a funk band. Listen to "Love Fever"(which, incidentally, features one of Ernie's baddest solos) from their "Showdown" album and tell me that's not rock 'n roll. I dare 'ya - I double dare 'ya!!! Oh...okay. Just an observation folks, But don't ya love how when a black musician does something considered to be more "rock oriented" like Darius, he's considered 'not black.' As though its not even worth his "black" time? But when a white musician does something considered to be more "soulful," he's called a genius? ie. Critics say that Thicke is the "closest thing to Stevie Wonder... " etc. It's a very interesting concept that for a white man to do a black man's thing it's considered a monumental event, but for a black man to do a white man's thing, he's doing something that's beneath him. Wow. If we could only get more black and white people to think that way. (smile) Preciate the respect, people! Long live the AFRO!

Anyone can sing like Ozzy Ozborne or Scott Weiland. It takes talent to sound like Corey Glover, Lejon Witherspoon, Bob Khaleel...all the way down to Chuck Berry, Little Richard and even Marvyn Gaye, 4 Tops and Temptations. They just have that certain something that white guys cant match. this is all coming from a white guy! "I'm here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum"
