When I listened to the album on MTV.com it sounded like standard Radiohead to me. Good and interesting, but not Suprising and Spectacular. Then I sat down and read the lyrics, and a whole new beast was unleashed,...wow!!!

Anyone buy a single yet? In the special edition there are lyrics listed at the bottom of the map for a song that's not on the CD. I was wondering if maybe it's a B-side??

Here's the lyrics:

Mimminent

my feeling is that there are dark forces at work here
not just digging up the road endlessly for no good reason making rush hour a fucking farce
something far more significant is occurring

these forces have been biding their time
awaiting the correct juncture

the appropriate moment to steal the throne
so to speak
& insert one of their own
one of the brethren
& surround him with close associates
goats & such
they have recently employed ushers
to ferry us

"bride" or "groom" or
"are you a relative of the deceased?"

preparing the way
so to speak
after the
meek have sung
under the electric replacement organ

the uncomfortable twitching of annoying modern hymnals

for the final sermon
twixt good & evil

or something

we await a decision.

Wow. Tom, you're right. Lyrically, it's just amazing.

By far this will be the most talked about album that comes in out in 2003. Its an amazing cd, which follows their previous very nicely. smile

I was listening to it on head phones this morning on the bus on my way to work. I was so into it I finally had to hold the 'phones tight to my ears and close my eyes. I must have looked like an idoiot, but ah... bliss!

I've just bought it. The album and the single. Listened
to the single on the way back home.

I was very pleasantly surprised to find that one of the
b-sides features the music they used as their intro for
the live shows last year.

And I too hope they will release at least 2 more singles
from this album with at least another 4 b-sides.

Nice packaging on the single too, what with the regular
cd jewelbox and the extra map-inlay.

My god, yes, you are right. Your response just hit me like
a blinding light. I now realise Radiohead are utter crap.
What was I thinking? How could I be so wrong? Perhaps I am
just gullible, thick and -let's face it- an idiot.

But as with your to the point posts about Prince's new and
instrumental jams, I will take your word for it on this as
well and commence to throw all my Radiohead cd's in the
trashcan.

Thank you for inspiring me Milty, and thank you for adding
a little sunshine to my day.

Hmm...that's odd. Everyone I know who has seen them has found plenty of connection with the band.

Perhaps anyone with "studio knowledge" could do what they do. But they DON'T do it. It takes artistic vision to make the music in the first place...not to mention songwriting skills. To say "anyone with studio knowledge blah blah fucking blah" is the same bullshit dimwitted excuse as people who look at modern art and say, "So what? I could do that same painting in two minutes." Yeah, but you DIDN'T. I could've painted the Mona Lisa. But I didn't. I could've invented Post-It Notes, but I didn't. GO enjoy your Terry Redlins and your Michael Crichton novels; leave art for art lovers. "Anyone could do it..." What a fucking invalid argument.

And since when is music judged solely on "funk" and "grooves?" How fucking close-minded and plebeian. I'm sure NEWS will blow your mind with its 2 Fonkey 4 U rhythms and its "genius" blend of bad jazz with bad pop.

Please, This group is pretty clever with their music, and I agree with this "funk" bullsh*t.. it doesnt have to exist in every genre/and every song... thats silly and narrow minded. These fellows dont play this "Take the carrot" crap about pleasing the "pop"/rock lovers who just want something that will digest easy and then move on.. This music is beyond that.Radiohead have a good consistancy vibe about bringing an up to date sound to their music, and the lyrics are clever.. If u dont dig radiohead, thats fine.. I can see a majority not understanding this music.

Radiohead is not a cookie cutter group.. They are musicians.
