Joi "Star Kitty's Revenge"

What do you think about Joi's record "Star Kitty's Revenge" (2002)? I thought it was a good album and Joi was great with the songs. My favorites are "Lick" and "Techno Pimp." How about you?

For my español brothas:
¿Qué pensas sobre "Star Kitty's Revenge" (2002) el disco compacto por Joi? Yo pienso que el disco era bueno y Joi era grande con sus canciónes. Mis canciónes favoritas son "Lick" y "Techno Pimp." ¿Y tú?

For you who dont know, Joi took Dawn's place in Lucy Pearl.
She is also married to Big Gipp from Goodie Mob.
I love the Pfunk song she does. The 1st time I ever heard her live, she was doing a cover of Darling Nikki.

Hell yeah! headbang Munchies For Your Love, Lick, Techno Pimp, You're A Whore, What If I Kissed You Now, Missing You!!! Anything Raphael Saadiq touches is pretty much on point in my book, but Joi is seriously an underrated artist. Ever been to one of her shows? Whew!!! Try mixing Parliament/Funkadelic, Chaka Khan, and The LaBelles in one drink on the rocks and you have Joi!!! lol

Are Lucy Pearl still together? I thought they disbanded.

For my español brothas & sistas
¿Es el grupo Lucy Pearl juntos? Yo pensó ellos habían separado.

I'm sorry but this LP doesn't do much 4 me. However I loved her cover of Chaka Khan's "I'm A Woman" and "Missing You".

Star Kitty's Revenge was okay...but it was no Amoeba Cleasing Syndrome. Unfortunately it was never released but it showcased her true artform. With the exception of the Raphael Saadiq tracks and Missing You, the album was attempting to be too commercial IMHO.

Can anybody say...Shake what your mama gave ya!

I thought that 1/3 of it was the bomb but the rest was OK. There are some great tracks, my faves "It's your Life (this shit is so fuckin funky), Lick, What if I kissed you right now, Techno Pimp and I'm a woman.

I liked the CD because it WASN'T commercial. After listening to it, I was thinking "no major label would release this just like it is unless they didn't HEAR it. It sounds like this was a CD SHE wanted to make. Although I don't like some of the material, I LOVED the fact that this was a very "free" CD in that it sounds uninhibited. Its not "perfect". Hell, its not even polished! She goes though several styles on one CD, which is UNHEARD OF in the biz unles the artist is marketed that way (i.e, Prince, Bjork, etc.). A nice, refreshing piece of work. It could have been a little better vocally, but that's alright. She kept it gangsta.
