On every Madonna album, there are at least a few tracks that really should have been singles.I don't know how much control she has,or if Warners picks her singles, but in many cases, somebody screws up and do not always choose the right ones. For example...

***"Fordidden Love" (1994)---Considering that her other collaboration with Babyface ("Take A Bow") became her BIGGEST hit single ever,it would have made perfect sense to release "Forbidden Love" as the follow-up.It's a sultry, sexy mid-tempo song that intoxicates the listener..."If I ever only had one wish, love should always feel like this"...damn,this song is HOT!!

***"Inside Of Me" (1994)---Another song from 'Bedtime Stories' that would have made an excellent single.

***"Sky Fits Heaven" (1998)---Official remixes were actually done for this song and it received alot of airplay in clubs. So,it was an obvious choice to be a single. It's one of the strongest songs from 'ROL' and with a stunning video,it would have been huge.

***"To Have And Not To Hold" (1998)---ditto

***"Impressive Instant" (2000)---the story goes that Maddy wanted this to be the fourth single from 'Music',but Warner execs felt it was too experimental and non-commerical.They wanted "Amazing" to become a single, but Madonna balked and when the smoke cleared, there wasn't a fourth single after all.

***"Drowned World/Substitute For Love"(1998)---I think this song was actually released as single outside the U.S.,but I don't see why it couldn't have been a worldwide single release. It's the most explosive track on the 'ROL' album.

There are a few others,I'll be back later smile

Dumb move by Warners becuase I think that "Impressive Instant" was one of the most commerical tracks on there ("I Desreve It" wasn't that bad either). It would have been a huge hit. It got a great reaction from the crowd. A few others I can think of are "Words", "Promise To Try" and "Skin". Well have to wait and see what they do with "American Life". Considering the prefromance of AL as single I don't think "Hollywood" is a good choice. "Mother and Father" would rock the dance floors and "Noting Fails" might be the kind of ballad that even Clear Channel might embrace (keyword: might). What's happening with the new video, single, etc for "Hollywood". It's no surprise that I haven't heard it on radio yet (barely heard AL when it was out) but is the video coming out soon or is it out. I find it hard to follow Madonna's career since someon decided to close Madonnarama during this very important part of her career. Are there any other good Madonna sites that follow a lot of her stories and have a good message board?

if you drop thief of hearts i'm in agreement with you. though, lovesong would not have been a hit but i'm biased and would have enjoyed hearing it on radio!

The song "Hollywood" is doing pretty good on radio.I have heard it on a few stations in my area. The video has just been filmed and it's due at the end of this month.Yes,it's a shame that Madonnarama has closed. It was the best source for the latest news. These are the other Madonna sites that I visit frequently. They have cool message boards, and the fans are always reporting the latest news...

I agree with all of those choices except for "Til Death Do Us Part".It's a GREAT song but perhaps a little too personal to become a pop hit (the lyrics deal with Sean Penn and her marriage problems). But "Think Of Me" is my favorite song from her debut album, and "Something To Remember" is one of her strongest ballads ever."Waiting" from the 'Erotica' album is a cool song with hit potential, and I also think "Words" and possibly "Why's It So Hard" should have been considered as well (in this regard,I am biased because that is my favorite Madonna album...lol).And I have argued with Aaron that "To Have And Not To Hold" would have made a better single choice from 'ROL' than "Power Of Goodbye" or "Nothing Really Matters".

On MADONNA:

"Physical Attraction"...it was serviced to clubs at one time but not an official single. This is my fav. track on the debut! It's such a HOT song! This would have done well sanwiched between "Lucky Star" and "Borderline"!!!

On LIKE A VIRGIN

None besides what was released...this is my least favorite M album. I loved "Love Dont Live Here Anymore" and alas it was released in '96...did shit on the charts though.

On TRUE BLUE

My other least fav. M album...but I did love "Where's the Party" which got tons or airplay but not officially released in the US.

On LIKE A PRAYER

Classic! I also love "Til Death Do Us Part" I think it would of fared much better than 'Oh Father' which I think is an amazing song! "Love Song" would've been fun to hear on the radio...but the song is weak.

On EROTICA

"Thief Of Hearts" and "Waiting" I think would've done well. "Where Life Begins" would've been to risque! Hee Hee

On BEDTIME STORIES

"Forbidden Love" all the way!!! Makes me wonder why Maddy and Face didnt do more tracks!!! "Inside Of Me" also.

On RAY OF LIGHT

"Drowned World" shoulda been a single in the US.

On MUSIC

"Impressive Instant" and "Gone" would've made great 4th and 5th singles!!!

On AMERICAN LIFE

I hope "Nothing Fails" gets some love...if anything this beautiful track could help the album sell more...if anything...this could get some of her older fans back to buying her music...

Peace!
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

I've noticed that, many times throughout her career,a Madonna song will get remixed and/or sent to radio or clubs *without* ever being offically released as a single. For example, there were official remixes done for "Sky Fits Heaven" and they were sent to nightclubs.Same with "Impressive Instant".And now there comes word that Peter Rauhofer has just done a remix for "Nobody Knows Me",a great song that will probably never become a single.

Madonna rocks smile

I became a real fan of Madonna in 1989 when a friend let me borrow the 'Like A prayer' album.I borrowed it just so I could hear the duet with Prince "Love Song".But,I soon found myself listening to the other songs over and over.I was mesmerized.Previously,I liked a few of her songs ("Live To Tell" is a masterpiece),but in 1989 I made the transition to "diehard fan"...lol...a year later,I saw her in concert on the 'Blond Ambition' tour and again,I was hooked.Madonna is really an incredible, amazing artist and pop music wouldn't be the same without her.

Madonna CAN sing. No,she doesn't have the range of a Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey but the woman can sing. Her singing has improved dramatically in recent years.Did you ever hear her 'Evita' songs?

yes I heard the EVITA songs they aint that good
and I hate the argument "She has improved" she is "better now" and "TRYING HER BEST"???

This aint no talent quest show there are no encouragement awards??
She doesn't deserve fame and sucess for trying her best
give us the BEST. There are people who deserve it.
and who are the best and need no improvement

anyway she's gone now? what happened to her last album??
It made "Glitter" by mariah look like "Thriller" lol

Wow,you sound alot like another Orger I used to argue with...lol...what do you mean she doesn't deserve her fame and success?? Madonna WORKED hard to get to the top and you don't make it there without talent. And,don't worry,Madonna is "not gone" yet.Her latest album 'American Life' didn't do as well as past efforts, but then again,it's not really a "commercial" project to begin with (it's a very personal album and much of it is not radio-friendly).But,even still,it has already sold over 4 million copies worldwide and it's a big hit in almost every other country *except* America (how ironic, huh?).

You need talent to be succesful?
JLO, MILLI VANILLI, PAULA ABDUL???
not a commercial album?
That is crap when an artist (term used loosely) says I don't care if this album doesn't sell? why the multi million record contract, videos, interviews blah blah
of course she wanted to sell, but the industry is full of singers now who are taking over, what relevamce does Madonna have in this new game? none

J-Lo,Miili Vanilli and Paula Abdul have not been around for 20 years the way Madonna has,so it's futile to compare them to Madonna. As for Madonna's record sales...listen to the title track and what she is saying...

"I tried to stay ahead
I tried to stay on top
I tried to be the best
but somehow I forgot
just what I did it for
and why I wanted more
this type of modern life is not for me"

She's saying that she has played the Top 10 game before and she is sick of it.While I'm sure she wants her records to sell (what artist doesn't?),I think she has more important things on her mind these days. She hasn't really been in "commercial" mode for awhile now.
