BlaqueKnight said: Sananda was doing those weird, crazy moves since day one. Go back and look at the "Wishing Well" video. You'll see a variation of those same moves. The SPLIT is NOT PRINCE'S!!! Ya'll kill me with that "all credit to Prince" shit. James Brown was doing that when Prince was still pissin' in his diapers. Check the record. Sananda was cool on the show, but the overall performance lacked energy a bit to me. I also think it was a bit "hollow" sounding. his voice was on point as always, though. Designated Fool is one of my favorites off Wild Card. I was hoping for a more pumped up version. I kinda wannna blame the bassist & the keyboard for being a bit weak. The drummer was tight and the background vocalists...well...thety were there. TTD was in good spirits and seemed to be glad to be performing. Judging from last night, he needs a new bass player and a keyboardist who knows how to fill up a song. One thing's for sure; he was NOT imitating Prince. Only Prince fans think this. Then again, Prince fans think that everyone is imitating Prince. You got that right!

The funniest part was the "Jay Sandwich"
Otherwise, Sananda still has the voice, but was trying too hard with the other stuff. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

pimpdoutt said: ok, you tell JONI that.
Joni has contempt for many of her admirers, including and especially Prince. I love her to death, but she was an innovator, not an inventor, so she has little room to judge. Which brings me to my next point. I think you're half-right, pimpdoutt. Prince is a hybrid because he plays so many styles and melds a lot of influences. But he's done so in interesting and rather unique ways. He may admire Joni, Jimi, James, Miles, Carlos, et al., but he has a distinct sound. In any event, you can't name one musician who hasn't been influenced by a predecessor. it would be nice if all P fanatics one day can see outside of their fanatacism
True enough. But don't shortchange P's accomplishments either. He didn't invent music, but it sure wouldn't sound the same without him. That, to me, is the definition of an innovator. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I saw TTD on the Jay Leno Show here in the UK, I Thought he did a good job. It was good to see him on TV again.
How big is the Jay Leno Show in the US, does it get a lot of viewers? Has Prince ever been on his show?

About four times already! He did the following songs, I think: Come On The Work Pt 1 Ballad of Dorothy Parker The Everlastung Now

But those 4 albums were all fantastic, IMO better than the 1st one which was such a great commercial success, so what's more important the quality of the music or the number of copies sold? If the general public doesn't buy 1st class music anymore that's sad, but I am happy when an artist like TTD/Sananda continues to do great music and not sells out just to sell more records like so many other so-called artists do With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! Nevertheless, his voice is still off the chain! I wouldn't necessarily say that, but there are some definite similarities!! Anyway, the song itself was top notch! Loved it! Similarities-definately! Prince has gone much further beyond Sly. Sly is a definite influence though. I saw Sananda on Leno last night and yes he still has that great voice. However, his dance moves were embarassing. I liked it when he pulled that first split out of nowhere but then he started doing some weird movements-- looked like he was fighting off a bee. The voice was great and the one split out of nowhere was even cool, but what the fuck was that damn criss-cross hand movement?!!! I've only seen one person pull that off and that's Prince in the SOTT video when he's performing "Hot Thing" or on "Automatic" from the Live in Detroit video (1986). Take your pic. TTD/Sananda doesn't ever need to do that again. [This message was edited Sat Jun 7 16:29:43 PDT 2003 by okaypimpn]

Can we say that Prince wants to be Sly Stone so bad it hurts if "THE WORK" is the saddest most watered down sucky ass James Brown rip off then what is! P is just as bad a rip off artist as terence He may have ripped them off a few times but he buries them both talent wise. Prince had heavy influences from Santana, Jimi, Sly, James, and Joni but he took everything that made them brilliant and made it his own. There is no other musician out there who can touch Prince as far as talent goes. Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

[This message was edited Thu Jun 5 9:07:14 PDT 2003 by Controversy1976] --- he had a slight hit in the u.s.(read: the video was played on mtv a couple times) about 10 years ago with the song "delicate" a duet he did with des'ree--they also performed the song on arsenio hall. "delicate" was on "symphony or damn." jay leno's the only late night host (since arsenio) to have ttd/sananda on his show. i think ttd has been on jay leno three or four times. i remember he performed "let her down easy" on there. think he also performed a song off "vibrator" on leno. so, i'll give leno his props for that. it was just nice to see ttd/sananda on american t.v. again. i thought his performance was fine. his vocals have always been top notch. i agree with utopia7, his voice did sound a bit raspier than normal and it probably was from touring. never thought he was that similar to prince. vocally he reminds me of sam cooke or sam moore--that school of soul singers.
