Similarities-definately! Female background sings (ie, Susannah, Jill Jones), female bass player (ie Rhonda Smith), the split, the SOTT "Hot Thing" dance in the middle of the chorus. It was more than just similarities IMHO. But, he has never disappointed me with the vocal skills. More of these R&B artists need to listen to him!

The difference is that Prince's "rip-off" was actually good. The only thing good about TTD last night was his voice. The song he performed by the way was "Designated Fool"

THE WORK is one of the saddest lamest most uninspired songs P has ever done.

and let us not talk about the EVEN WORSE performance of it when he was promoting the TRC on TV. (i beleive it was on david letterman) talk about a tired ...

I like a few things on TRC.

THE WORK was a cheap attempt at a commercial single that
took away the shine of TRC.

eh, I don't think it was so great. Not a strong tune, a very weak band and TTD seemed rushed.

He should've done a more melodic tune. "DF" wasn't so striking last night.

Well, I thought it was great hearing DF live (since it seems I won't get to hear it ANYTIME soon sad ), though it would've been nice to hear O Divina live, which is more upbeat. I so wish, however, that he kept his band from the Symphony or Damn days. But, last night's wasn't bad either, just no spunk or energy, but that may have something to with the song selection, too!

Sananda was doing those weird, crazy moves since day one. Go back and look at the "Wishing Well" video. You'll see a variation of those same moves. The SPLIT is NOT PRINCE'S!!! Ya'll kill me with that "all credit to Prince" shit. James Brown was doing that when Prince was still pissin' in his diapers. Check the record. Sananda was cool on the show, but the overall performance lacked energy a bit to me. I also think it was a bit "hollow" sounding. his voice was on point as always, though. Designated Fool is one of my favorites off Wild Card. I was hoping for a more pumped up version. I kinda wannna blame the bassist & the keyboard for being a bit weak. The drummer was tight and the background vocalists...well...thety were there. TTD was in good spirits and seemed to be glad to be performing. Judging from last night, he needs a new bass player and a keyboardist who knows how to fill up a song. One thing's for sure; he was NOT imitating Prince. Only Prince fans think this. Then again, Prince fans think that everyone is imitating Prince.

on a side note, it was knd of annoying that Leno asked Sananda about the name change then thanked "Terence Trince Darby" as they were ending the interview. Stupid ass trailer chin mutha fu...
