Since when the hell were Lovesexy, Parade and SOTT 'CONCEPT' albums?!!? (ie: in the true sense of the word - with a dramatic storyline running thru the album) Lovesexy is the only one that even comes close 2 getting there - and that's really pushing it... First of all, the word "concept" can be very broadly construed. Parade by virtue of the soundtrack which follows the plotline, and the way it follows the story, as well as the lush euro-funk "concept." Sign O' The Times by virtue of its unique melding of genres into one distinctive "Prince" sound. Lovesexy is self-explanatory. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

not concept albums in my book.
Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' is a concept album The Who's 'Tommy' is a concept album Rush's '2112' is a concept album Genesis' 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' is a concept album - although this has the same problem as pretty much all concept albums - you'd need your neighbor's dog to explain it to you for it to make any bloody sense! The only album Prince has EVER done that could be construed as an attempt (and 2 be fair, a pretty good one) at a 'concept album' was:

It doesn't have quite the same feel as the classic concept albums like The Wall but neither does Secret Life of Plants which is also a great concept album. I agree that SOTT and Parade aren't concept albums. As you said including Lovesexy is a stretch. Incidentally, I was listening to Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland the other day and there's a concept album in there somewhere. As for OK Computer (Radiohead), I think it qualifies as a concept album-- a helluva good one at that. I'm not sure, but this might have helped light a flame under Prince's ass for TRC. Before OK Computer there hadn't been a strong concept album that I know of since the 70's. is a very good album but I wouldn't call it a concept album. For me I guess a concept album would be defined as an album of cohesive songs which ultimately is much more than the sum of its parts, however good those parts may be. You don't always need words to tell a story. [This message was edited Fri Jun 6 18:02:42 PDT 2003 by whodknee] [This message was edited Fri Jun 6 18:08:07 PDT 2003 by whodknee]

A lot of the albums listed here aren't "concept" albums really... I thought a concept album should be an album with an overriding theme, where all the songs fit into the theme.
Mainly a cheesy prog rock thing

The Beatles Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was NOT a concept album, theyve stated as much themselves. Aside from the opening track segue into With a Little Help From My Friends, and the reprise at the end, the songs are totally unrelated.

Tommy is a rock opera, not a concept LP. I view a concept LP as an album full of songs tied around one single theme, idea, or overall vibe. If you think of all LPs is a concept LP (and I don't necessarily take issue with that), I truly fail to see how you think SOTT, Lovesexy, Parade, or even TRC for that matter, are not "concept" albums. And Lovesexy is a much more cohesive and consistent "concept" LP than ever was. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
