Where are the saxophones?

They just don't make pop music with saxophones anymore. I'm listening to the radio and "Urgent" by Foreigner is on. INXS, Duran Duran and other bands used sax alot. No one really does that anymore, do they?

Sting has soprano sax and trumpet, but I'm talking about regular sax. Alto, I guess?

Name some current pop artists that use sax a lot, please, cause I can't think of any.

I'm talkin' like some good "The Heat is On" kinda sax.

Actually, before rock music was guitar-based it was sax-based. But that was before our time.biggrin

And after it being sax-based rock, it veered toward a piano-base.

There will be a test soon.

Well, yeah, then what do you say? Adult Contemporary? barf

I know what you mean though. What I mean is back in the 80's, it seemed like we had more music using saxophone. Music you heard on Top 40 radio. It seems Top 40 wasn't such a bad word back then. Maybe they didn't even use the term. I don't remember.

David Bowie still uses sax on most of his records, although he doesn't play it very well.
but the man has a thing for sax.

It's a shame that you don't hear saxophones (or any horn instruments) on much of today's pop music.Back in the 70s,a sax solo was pretty much the norm. These days, for the most part,if you wanna hear sax,you have to listen to jazz.

No I think Supernova that the guitar replaced the saxophone as the soloing instrument after 60's... piano stuff came much later, basically because the guitar maybe easier to play ...???
HOWEVER there is Maceo there is always Maceo, (and there is also Candy)...oh I know not pop, but what the heck still the best defining funkiest sax player around that must be why Prince loves him so much...

The piano-based driven rock music didn't come after guitar-based rock, simply because nothing has replaced guitar as the genre's main instrument.

From Ike Turner's piano, to Johnny Johnson's piano, to Little Richard's piano, to Fats Dominoe's piano, to Jerry Lee's, etc...Piano-based rock intermittently held its own with sax-based rock music and later the guitar driven rock from the late 40s (yes, late '40s) thru the '50s, respectively.

I've been saying the same thing the last few years. You hear hits from the mid-80's and before, and there's some great rock/pop sax all over it. You just don't get sax in the hits anymore sad
