I beg to differ. Are you telling me that "Ladies Night" (1979),"Too Hot"(1979),"Get Down On It"(1981),"Joanna"(1983) and "Fresh"(1985) are NOT good songs? Yes,it's true that their music became more "pop" after Taylor joined, but it's absurd to suggest that these songs were not good.JT is a great vocalist and those songs are classics.

I agree with David. Kool and the Gang were cool before JT and cool after. It just took them into a different phase but I enjoy songs from both.

1st, I'm pleasantly surprised to see that NO 1 here had "Celebration" on their lists..
I can only presume that most (or all) of you think something like I do-
that "Celebrate"
is
THE MOST OVERPLAYED SONG IN THE HISTORY OF RECORDED MUSIC.

I.. liked the song.. the 1st
3 MILLION TIMES I heard it on the radio when it came out..
but AFTER THAT..

since that song came out, I have NEVER been to a wedding reception where that song WASN'T played..
WHO PASSED A LAW saying that this song HAD to be played at EVERY wedding reception IN THE WORLD???
I know the song is "appropriate, but DAMN!!!
I swear-
I GUARANTEE that "Celebration"
WILL NOT BE PLAYED
at my wedding reception.
NOT ONLY WILL THE DJ NOT BE PAID,
but I will LITERALLY, personally throw him/her
THROUGH
the nearest window or off the nearest balcony.

For real.

BUT-
I digress!
lol

Funky Stuff + More Funky Stuff
- I actually prefer "More Funky Stuff".. that baby just becomes a hypnotic rhythm guitar WORKOUT

Open Sesame
- very percussive & vibrant, with CRAZY jumping horns..
if you can't shake your ass to THIS 1..

Hollywood Swinging
- as kids, we used to lose our minds to this jam.. I still love the line, the way he says "the city of the stars, movies, women.. & CAHS.."
HEY! HEY! HEY!

Jungle Boogie
- still a classic, but kind of "overplayed", thanks to "Pulp Fiction"

Ladies Night
- like Handclaps said, though- it's GOT to be the 12" VERSION

Get Down On It
- yes indeed! in junior high, we would sing this 1 to the girls & POINT TO OUR CROTCHES
heh heh heh..

Take My Heart (You Can Have It If You Want It)
- I like this 1 because JT sings most of it in my vocal range, until the end, when he starts doin' "like Marvin"..
another K&TG classic I used to have my way with another unsuspecting high school female, back in the day..

Too Hot
- JT really worked it on this cut.. the only real "slow" number I like from the group; "Joanna" was alright.. but just a LITTLE TOO "SYRUPY" for me..

after these songs, they just TOTALLY crossed over-
Lionel Richie style-
& I really didn't dig much of what they put out from that point on..

the way they're dressed on the cover of
"Forever"
says it all.
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

"Celebration" is one of my least favorite Kool and The Gang songs. It's hard to explain why. That song just sounds too,too...(looking for the right word)..."clean" and "neat"...lol..."Ladies Night" was funky as hell, but "Celebration" sounds too pop and glossy.

But the 'Celebration' album (1980) was pretty good.I love "Jones Vs.Jones","Take It To The Top","Just Friends" and "Love Festival".That's one of their strongest albums.
