The chic does have a nice but everytime I hear her, I hear Jill Scott(not that its bad) considering that she was her former back-up arist. But she along with Floatry are caught up in the Jill influence.

I'm gonna have to wait till her next effort drops! she may come up with something different.

I must say tho, the BEST newcomers from Philly so far are Kinderd The Family Soul & Ms.Jaquar Wright nod

I didn't know that! But I do think she can handle her own and she has a slightly dif style than Jill... Love me some Jill tho!

I am so on the Philly tip it's not even funny LOL. Although, I am not sure how much I dig Jaquar... I've spun her disc a few times, and there are a few nice songs... I prolly shoulda bought the censored version... I think that might have turned me off a little...

LOL Unlike you, I ain't too crazy about the young Philly soul momvment but there're some of them who can pull my intrest(such as the ppl that I mentioned earlier) but overall, they sound alike IMHO.

Jill is cool tho but I can't have it when folks up in there saying she's the best thang that eva happend to Philly's soul music. Hello? Eva heard of somebody called Phyllis Hyman? Now that is the BADDEST woman from Philly. Its a shame that her OWN hometown peeps can't give her the credit even when she's dead.

But I gotta give credit to Jill 4 moving me when she pre4med "Nothing For Nothing" in Def Poetry Jam! Whew,,,talking about an angry, deep, powerful and all-up-on the face talking. She really impressed me when she pre4med that number.

I think they have a similar sound, but only in respect to the originality... if that makes any sense smile

I totally agree!! Jill is good and I am glad she came in and shook up the philly scene... Phyllis is the woMAN! Talk about soul.

She is a very moving and powerful speaker. I think what sealed it for me was her live performance of You Got Me with The Roots... Now that was some saaangin

Even in the 70s the bulk of Gamble and Huff productions sounded alike. Do you mean musically or vocally?

I'm talking about the [YOUNG] Philly movments, that means nowadays. They sound alike musically and vocally(most of them 2 be fair).

70's Philly music is nothing to be missed with!

[color=#00CCC:db5e4dab31]I'm feeling Vivian. Very different from Jill to me. I like Jill, too. I didn't care for a lot of the music on Jill's CD, but the vocals were excellent. Vivian is more subtle than Jill. Jill has more 'tude in her music than Vivian. Vivian seems more passive, but she still has a great voice. She's a "pretty" singer. She sang live on Soul Train. I thought that was cool. You don't see that much on there these days. Jaguar Wright had one of the most slept-on CDs in recent years. She has some POWER to her! I think of it like this: If Jaguar were Patti, Jill would be Phyllis and Vivian would be Anita Baker. Get it? Got it? Good.
