Living Colour concert review.

Living Colour, played a free event, the Taste Of Cincinnati this friday, and really kicked my ass. I went to two other shows of theirs before this, but this one was the best.

Corey Glover was in amazing voice and Vernon Reid played just mind blowing guitar. His speed riffs were jaw dropping. He may be one of the fastest around. His funk chords were sharp and biting. And Doug Wimbish played some amazing jazzy bass. Wimbish easily could whup on Larry for bass supremacy. Calhoun killed on the drums and all was well with the world, especially the gig being free.

Very big response from the crowd, of mostly white people, since Cincinnati has a very segregated music scene. Maybe it was because most of them were drunk. lol

They played two new songs: One, I forgot the title, but may well be their best song so far. It had a very Stonesy riff and was super funky. They may be more soul music on the next album. This new song was brilliant and got an amazing crowd response--which may mean this could be a hit single. One of the few actual classic LC songs, so far.

The other may have been called, Operation Mindcrime. It was very punky with rapped lyrics by Glover. He talked about how Ashcroft was taking away our rights. It was hard and rocking, but a bit clunky. Hopefully it will sound better on record.

Glover did some mind bending falsetto stunts that really worked up the crowd. He may even have a better falsetto than Prince! They also did some weird electronica stuff, using wild sound effect stuff. Very experimental.

Not, surprisingly, Cult Of Personality got a great response. Really mauled live.

Love Rears It's Ugly head was done like a jazz song, with stand up bass. Amazingly soulfull, like Marvin Gaye or some shit. Beautiful--too bad I didn't have a tape player. Classic moment.

All in all a great show. New album might do well, hopefully. Prince better watch it, Vernon is gonna kick his ass.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!
