Tori Amos - Boys For Pele.

Shame on me 'cos I've had this album since its release in '96 and it's only been in the last week that I've truly realised what a great album it is! Safe to say it's now my favourite of hers (replacing Little Earthquakes.)

I'm now cursing myself for all the times I called this album an aimless piece of shit! boxed

Fave songs:

Horses
Professional Widow
Marianne
Hey Jupiter
Little Amsterdam
In The Springtime Of His Voodoo
Twinkle

This is the cd that got me into her. I love harpsichord and Professional Widow is a great fucking song. I also love Blood Roses, Caught a Lite Sneeze, Father Lucifer, In the Springtime of his Voodoo, Hey Jupiter, fuck it, the whole thing is great.

My friend and I used to preform Little Amsterdam in coffehouses.
All alone, got a girl in the city, HEY, got a room and a place for two...
music

He played acoustic guitar and we both sang, kinda trading off lead vocals. Sooo much fun to sing that song.

Always thought it was her best album.

BRILLIANT ALBUM!!

My faves are Not the Red Baron and Marianne... but there are so many other amazing tracks.

Little Amsterdam... Hey Jupiter... it's an incredibly personal, powerful album. Everyone should own it smile

Gotta love Talula. If only for that verse that goes:

I got BigBird on the fishingline
with a bit of a shout a bit of a shout
a bit of an angry snout
he's my favorit hooker of the whole bunch

and I know about his only bride and how the
Russians die on the ice
I got my rape-hat on, oh honny but I
always could accescorise

I also had a hard time getting into this album when I first
bought it just after it was released. It was the first lp I
bought that wasn't very easy to get into.

But over the years I have learned to love it a lot. There is
so incredibly much to discover on this album, it's like an
enormous house and you keep running into things you never
noticed before.

"Horses" is one of her alltime best songs, especially with
"beauty queen" attached to it like some weird segue.

And has anyone heard the "Sylkscreen Mix" of "Father Lucifer"?
Now that's a smooth remix. It's a bit more mainstream than
the original version but it's just so smooth and mellow and
deliscious. You've got to track that down if you haven't
heard it yet. Verrry nice.

I think alot of people took a bit to really get into BFP, but once you hear as well as listen there aint no goin' back. At first you think "what the...?", but then one day...POW! and it's all good from there.

I certainly was referring to the album version!! Although I must admit, that "Gotta Be Big...Bring it close to my lips here" line was my mantra for a while smile

I love singing that part! And the Tornado version of Talula is just great. Right after the lyrics you got up there is my absolute favorite part...
and i never cared too much for the money
but i know right now
that it's in god's hands
oh but i don't know who the father is

Sing it Tori! Release that shit girl.

And the Sylkscreen Mix of Father Lucifer is very smooth. Did you see the VH1 storytellers when she preformed that live?

No, I'm sorry to say I didn't see that. Can't get VH1 over
here yet.

sad

The whole lyrics to Talula are just so weird and cool. Let
alone that video with here in those plastic cubicles.

Another fav of mine on that album is 'Muhammed My Friend"
which is a prime example of her brilliant piano playing.

That intro is simply wicked.

Even though Pele had some hot tracks, it's still one of my least favorite Tori albums. It just seems kinda plain overall.
