I just watched her on the VH1's Divas Duets show... it was live... she just performed a new song, "On My Own" and frankly, sounded horrible.

She couldn't hit her notes, her voice gave out, she was nervous, truly awful...


I hope she's okay... damn.

I remember seeing her on one of these VH-1 Divas shows several years ago (1999,I think) and I was so embarassed for her.It was obvious that she was on drugs.Her performance was so off and she was sweating like a pig! I would have thought,by now,she would have finally gotten herself together.

The preformance was terrible and I love that song. Even worse was the Bobby Brown duets. I can't wait for her to drop him like she drops her other bad habits. If she ever does divorce him, everything will go well for her. You can just see that she has really become his puppet. What was with that horrible nazi walking they were both doing on stage. And the "On My Own" prefromance kind of sounded like some new arrangement and I have an idea who wanted her to sing it "gritty" like that!

Surgery can't restore your vocal chords. Prime example is her cousin, Dionne Warwick. When Dionne first came out back in the day she sounded a lot like Whitney and could hit those notes, too but since she started smoking, her voice deteriorated over the years. It's a proven fact that smoking "drops" the voice and makes it raspy.

Unfortunately, a lot of R&B vocalists smoke (or have smoked) and if you listen closely you can tell how their voices have changed over the years (D'Angelo-although I don't thinks his has really caught up with him that much yet, but it's getting there, K-Ci Hailey, Mary J. Blige, Tweet, etc.)

I don't find it funny either. It's sad but she isn't the first star to hit rock bottom and she won't be the last. And she is as bad an influence on Bobby as he is on her. But most people with problems such as theirs seek out those with the same issues.

I didn't realize surgery could restore your voice after smoking, but you're right about singers who smoke (it doesn't just happen to r&b vocalists though). It was happening to Robert Plant of Led Zep, and Aretha Franklin too. I don't know if either has gone back to smoking.
