I'd also list "Love Hassles" by the Stone City Band if was on one of Rick's Albums. It's still his song.

BTW, I already have Bustin Out: the very best of Rick James but I noticed they've remastered it w/ the Anthology - should I get it? Am I missing much? I notice some different songs on there... confused

  • You and I
  • Big Time
  • Give it to me baby
  • Standing on the top
  • Cold Blooded
  • Glow (remember the video? A 3-minute, bootleg version of Purple Rain biggrin)
  • Super Freak
  • Mary Jane
  • Loosey's rap (Now there's a cut that you never hear on the radio!)

Just 9. Fire and Desire doesn't even round out my list. I've never been very passionate about that cut; not sure why, either.

4 that video, I always thought of Rick as a closet Prince's fan nod Sheila E. hammered him 4 that move.

Calhoun...don't waste your money on the 'Anthology' 2-CD set.I think the 'Bustin Out' 2-CD set is much better, although the 'Anthology' does contain several tracks that didn't appear on the previous compilation...

"Come Into My Life" (1979)
"When Love Is Gone" (1979)
"Island Lady" (1980)
"Happy" with Teena Marie (1982)
"My Love" (1982)
"P.I.M.P. the S.I.M.P." with Grandmaster Flash (1983)
"Sweet and Sexy Thing" (1986)
"Loosey's Rap" with Roxanne Shante (1988)

So,you do get 8 songs that do not appear on the 'Bustin Out' compilation but other than that,it's basically the same compilation (even the liner notes are the same!).On the surface, the 'Anthology' looks like a kickass compilation but looks can be deceiving. For example,"Sweet and Sexy Thing" is presented in a lame remix and it's mostly instrumental. And the song "17" is presented in it's single version, while "Big Time" sounds somewhat different than the regular version that appears on 'Bustin Out'.It sounds like an early version that needed a little more work.

I'm sick of Motown releasing all these compilations. Why not just re-master the original albums instead?? Most fans already have all the hits anyway.

"17" just KICKS! I remember playing the LP single at home one day when my uncle walked in...he just started shaking his thang to this! I had it real loud...now if "17" can make an uncle do the funky chicken, it must be strong stuff!

...also dig the song he wrote 4 the Mary Jane Girls called "Shadow Lover".

(PS-I know this was state your Top Ten Rick James, but I only heard these 2! sad )
