U2 -- The Best of 1990 - 2000 & the B-Sides

I'm late getting into these guys. Before snagging this gem off of the much-mourned CDnow, I'd bought only "All You Can't Leave Behind" (whose title track grabbed me by the lapels). Before those two, I thought the band comprised a group of posers from Ireland who started out as a startingly strident Christian rock band with a mad political streak. And, could the Edge play anything more than that gimmicky jangle that seemed to last all of the 1980s?

Oh, and "One." Everyone loves "One," don't we? Whichever version of "One" that gets under one's skin might vary, but... well, great song.

And, yeah, they've benefited from a string of really cool producers. But, the import version of the "Best of ... B-sides" includes a bonus CD with more remixes and such. It's great. The 3 discs provide a lot more views of U2, far more facets to them than I thought were there.

And, yeah, The Edge can do a lot more than the jangle. Wow.

Raising this Orangina martini orange toast to U2.

the first hits compilation was far better than this excuse
for a hits-set with more discs and dvd's than they knew what
the hell to do with.

And yet, somehow in this monsterpackage campagne they still
didn't include "The Fly" [their keystone turningpoint song]
on the set, and left of a few other pretty essential ones as
well.

However, they did include a ton of remixes no one was lookin
out for as a bonus disc. Still, it would have been nice if
they had put some more focus on the original hits 90-00 cd
and made that one a bit more cohesive instead of turning it
into a weird object with no soul.

The first hits & b-sides package they released was something
spectacular compared to this. I'd been looking forward to it
eversince I got the first one but this is a real let-down.

i didn't buy this because i have almost all the material already on singles, records, boots, etc. I'm not a huge fan of best of collections anyway.

I'm glad you realized the error of your ways, though, and took a 2nd listen to U2 lol
