Write your own 2003/2004 music history

The Year is 2005. What's happened in music the last couple of years? What would you want to have happened? This is pure fiction so forget it being believable just make it your musical fantasy. Hey it's Friday and I'm bored at work, what can I say.

The 2005 Grammy awards: PRINCE WINS BIG!

After an absence of almost 2 decades, Prince once again reigns atop the music world winning in all 6 categories in which he was nominated, including album of the year. Propelled by his 4X platinum album "Prince: Reborn" his royal badness not only swept through last nights awards, but brought the house down with an energetic live performance of "Electric Heart" the final single from 2004's top selling album. Warner Brothers released "Prince: Reborn" in April 2004. The double album, first made available through his NPG Music Club in January of 2004, marked the return of Prince to his old label. The multi-million deal between Prince and Time\Warner not only guarantees the release of 4 more new Prince albums over the next 6 years, but also remastered versions of his entire back catalog, many with added tracks from the same period. "Prince: Reborn" contained 24 tracks produced, written and performed solely by Prince. The songs are an eclectic mix of various musical styles that can't be defined simply as "rock", "funk" or "soul" although it contains elements of all three. "It's something only Prince could have done", said music historian Nelson George. "It's part 1999, part Sign O The Times. Those comparisons come from the Linn Drum and keyboard programming but really it's a step above both of those albums. He took the best of his past work and built on it. Simply incredible an artist could go back and build on what he had done 14-15 years ago. If you didn't know better, you would think this album was recorded right after Lovesexy" The album which spawned a record 8 top ten singles, multiple Grammy nominations as well as a sold out world tour, is seen by many as the reason "pre-programmed" radio stations have fallen out of favored in the last year. Today's trend of stations looking to create their "own" hits rather than using programming service's play lists, started late last spring. A handful of radio stations lead the way by adding the track "Heat" to their play list. Prince's funky bass-driven track had found its way into some Chicago and Detroit night clubs soon after it became available on Prince's NPGMC. After quickly becoming a club favorite, "Heat" was made available as a single to radio and retailers nationwide via Prince's own NPG records. After quickly rising to number one in some major cities, the rest followed making "Heat" the fastest ever independently released single to go gold. Soon after, the bidding war began between the major record labels over the rights to release the album Reborn. To the surprise of many, Warner emerged as the winner. This was in large part due to them agreeing to turn over the masters of Prince's WB recordings to Prince himself. The deal also allowed prince to make future albums, "b-sides",remixes and "unreleased" tracks available to his NPGMC members for download. "It's been a good year" said Prince backstage after collecting his 6 Grammies. "Its different than the last time I was here I can tell you that. The fame, the awards, the hit singles; I'm enjoying it much more this time around." Asked what's next, Prince flashed a sly smile and answered " Well, I've got the new album coming out but I don't plan on touring again until next year." Before the puzzled crowd of reporters could ask why, Prince's wife walked up and handed Prince an infant wrapped in a purple and peach colored blanket. "Just call me Daddy Pop" he proclaimed proudly, making reference to one of his songs from the early 90's. At last, it seems the Prince as an heir to his thrown.

Maurice Gibb came back from the dead.

Kate Bush got off of her ass and finally delivered.

Michael Jackson made the comeback all his fans wanted.

So did Prince.

MTV News August 22, 2005

Rappers Emenim and 50 cents have announced they will be staring in the direct to video "Ain't Gonna Hurt Nobody: The Kid N Play Story" The one-time chart toppers hope this movie can revive their stalled careers. Both have failed to gain a hit record since Andre Young, who used to rap, write and produce under the name Dr Dre, left the music industry and was appointed Ambassador to Holland by President Al Sharpton earlier this year. "I still can't believe he just cut out on us like that" said a still shaken Emenim. "He just came into the studio one day and said he was moving to Amsterdam." "He tried to tell us it was his duty as an American because President Sharpton asked him but that's bull shit!" Interjected 50 cent. "He just goin' over there cause it's legal to sell weed and pussy!" Asked who was going to be Kid and Who was going to be play Emenim said "I'm gonna be Kid of course cause he was the white one" When told Kid was only half white a shocked Emenim replied "So that's why his ass could dance like that" The films producer, sitting near by reassured Mr.. Mathers he would have a stunt double for any such scenes.
