any Coldplay fans out there?

I was turned on to this band by a friend, and can't get enough of this "Rush of Blood to the Head" album! Great lyrics, beautiful sounding, great production..Simply brilliant pop sensibility, yet moody..Any opinions? Guess I'm outta the loop, as I guess they are big overseas..But I know what I like!

Maaan, I'm glad they're NOT Radiohead. I heard so many people make the comparisons and claim that Coldplay was surpassed by Radiohead that I went out on a whim and bought all of Radiohead's releases. Came home, listened to it, and gave all of it away.

Maybe what I like about Coldplay is different than what people like about both Coldplay and Radiohead, but for me Radiohead's vocals are hardly audible or detectable. It's far more whinier than Coldplay's and it gets drowned out by the cacophony of electronica in Radiohead's production.

I need to hear the words. I need to hear the vocals, and I need to understand what the hell someone is moaning about.

Agreed, but is coldplay really 'happy' music? The entire parachutes cd was pretty moody/down except for "yellow" and A rush of blood wasnt to cheerful either, but either way, their latest album is amazing, and politik is the sh*t!

Pearl Jam begat Creed

Radiohead begat Coldplay

In both of these incantations the orginnal band influnced the copy cat who then took the original bands more pop-pleasant etc sound for mass comsumption while the original gangster continued to grow and expand from the top 40 pleasant easy to digest sound.

Coldplay have a big future ahead of them although "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" isn't as good as "Parachutes" IMHO."Parachutes" is simple, meaningful and beautiful wrapped in just 40-something minutes like those good ol' concept albums in the '70s whereas "A Rush..." sounds a lil' too commercial but has its fair share of beautiful songs: Clocks,Daylight,Warning Sign and Amsterdam.

Their dark and beautiful music gives Coldplay the x-factor over other bands who produce angry and shouting stuff.

They DO sound a lil' like Radiohead y'know Chris has that Thom Yorke tone in his voice.

Haven't seen 'em in concert but would love to.

Nah I never said that Coldplay made happy music... they whining too... but I can at least udnerstand what the hell they moanin about.

I agree with RD that Radiohead is the less popfriendly of the two... I personally find their style highly inaccessible.

Coldplay really cinched it for me with "Trouble" like another poster said previously. I mean just the piano and voice so simple, so heartfelt and laden with emotions... and I could understand and hear the vocals!

"A Rush of Blood" doesn't get as much play as parachutes cuz I think they went for a more bombastic sound with more noize... but there are still those quiet moments (or quieter moments) that really move me.

I really tried with Radiohead... I mean I really tried. But I just couldnt' subject my ears to it anymore. I guess when it comes to melancholy white music, I'm not that hardcore.

I think most people who are into Radiohead were into them from jump street or at least The Bends..its hard for folks to just jump into them especially their recent stuff. Need to see and have been with them along their progression methinks for some to appreciate it etc and/or enjoy it and hear em.

Ok Comp is a scary place to start for some to get hooked..because their next one was the sound change of Kid A. So if ya hung on after gettin into OK Comp then more power to ya.

Thats what hooked me about it, their music was hard to digest, but it sounded good.. so I stuck with it. Now I love it! Paranoid Android had a lot to do with it, Everything In Its Right Place also had a lot ot do with it...

Yeah, but the lead singer reminds me, at various turns, of Bono and Dave Matthews -- two singers I like, but still...

The day i first picked up OK Computer, I was on my way to work and popped it into my player. I intentionally went to work 45 min late because I was so mesmerized by the album, I HAD to hear the whole thing. And that was on the first listen. Now THAT is what a fucking good album does to you.

I heard "Trouble" on the radio one time and really liked the song. But I had a hard time figuring out what the sonf was called or who the group was because they sound like everything else out there. My first impression of Colplay was that they were a bit of a Radiohead ripoff, only less daring and challenging. I really enjoy Radiohead's sonic landscape, sometimes melodic other times chaotic. They don't knock out albums, they craft them, and that's one of the reasons I hold them in such high regard.

Even after listening to their last album, colplay still sounds like radiohead for the masses. However, they do write great songs, play well, and sing well. They just haven't done anything defining or unique yet.

I agree with this wholeheartedly

and just in case...if there was no Radiohead, there would be no Coldplay.

just like no Pearl Jam, no Creed

No Nirvana, no Pearl Jam and no Stone Temple Pilots or Bush (gentle versus, crunchy chrorus syndrome)

Yeah, there might not have been a coldplay without radiohead.. but they sure as heck dont sound a like...

This kindof stuff was said a while ago around here, and when I picked up coldplays new joint, I was amazed that people thought it was even remotely simular... yeah they both are melancholy.. but dont sound anything a like to me...

Sadly enough, there are more simularities in vocals of dave math. and coldplay, than radiohead.. even lyrically, where do the simularities stand? I can see the roots and inspiration that coldplay got from radiohead..

Well, The Bends album was obviously an influence. But beyond that I don't hear it. You'll never get Coldplay doing a Kid A or Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors. Well, it's unlikely anyhow.
