Steely Dan and Annie Lennox are the ones that immediately spring to mind. I'm sure there are some others, but I can't think of them right now. Hell, even the new Weird Al coming out next week sounds good to me!

White Stripes' "Elephant" is an amazing piece of work. We're gonna get tired of hearing about it come Christmas, cuz it's gonna be at the top of all the year-end "Best Of" lists. It's the complete opposite of everything we've been conditioned to tolerate in music over the past few years, and I love it.

And yet another kickass release... Do you know or have any info on who handles these releases... Like a website with future projects for example?

Albums I'm waiting for:

  • Amel Larrieux - Bravebird Her website said it would see a spring 2003, but it'll probably be later. I'm waiting feverishly for this soon-to-be gem. I loved 2000's Infinite Possibilites and she had me completely during her Groove Theory days. I just heard the two new tracks "Believe In Love" and "Bravebird" and they are LIGHTS OUT! She is an angel musically.

  • Kelis - Tasty (due out late summer/fall 2003) The first single for this record will be "Milkshake." She's still with the Neptunes and I'm interested to see where's she's going lyrically since she's soon to be wed to Nas and if she's going to include tracks from the never-domestically-released Wanderland album (2001). I heard she was playing around with live instrumentation a la N*E*R*D's "In Search Of" and I hope she keeps my favorite jam from Wanderland "Perfect Day." Overall, the album definitely should be interesting.

  • Janet Jackson - There's been a lot of silence surrounding this project. Her record company hasn't said anything, plus Jimmy & Terry are throwing us Goldfish crackers, no juicy morsels of info yet on this project, but it's Janet so it should be hot. I'm interested to see where she takes us stylistically: an R&B album in the vein of the sensual "janet." or a deeper "Velvet Rope"-type disc? Or she might flip the script all together and do something totally leftfield. No matter what, my credit card will be swiped for it!

  • Meshell Ndegeocello - I heard she's just wrapped up a Jazz album...WOW! Meshell is going in different musical directions. I really enjoyed "Critieron" and all the other jazz-inspired pieces from her previous records so it's going to be interesting to hear her foray into a complete Jazz album. I love her live shows and I'd always wished she'd transform her musical shows into jazz/studio compositions. Sounds delicious.

  • Tori Fixx - The Minority Report - Simply by chance I ran into his 2000 indie release "The Mochasutra" and I was subsequently blown away. Tori has a gift. His music is banged out. His lyrics are true and his production skills are top-notch. If I was an artist I'd call up his number in a second. I wish he would blow up on a larger scale so I hope this record does it for Tori! I'm interested to hear how he follows up the classic that was MOCHASUTRA, man I'm still jammin' that record (24 hrs. a day almost.) He's another man guaranteed a credit card swipe!

No word on the following artists projects, but I'd love hear something from them again:
Billy Lawrence (Billy please bless us, stop doing the background vocal work!)
Dionne Farris (Dionne make another gem for us...still waiting for a mainstream follow up to WILD SEED WILD FLOWER and what's up with her website www.dionnefarris.com -- it's scary.)
Res (loved you live!)
Backroom Matches (Maasen & Vgurra in the studio once again!)

Elaborate.

Just cuz they are hyped by the media does not have to mean the do not live up to it.
The album is unbelievably layered, firm and playful. This, to me, is one of them special front to back albums; not a bad song in sight (or hearing).
It is a must-play-from-beginning-to-end album. Firmly rooted in blues. Jack White rips off the right musicians, styles his album like not many do anymore and do it without getting too pretentious.
Even though he is part (unwillingly) of that THE-band movement. THE strokes, THE Hives, THE vines, THE Rapture, THE Raveonettes, THE Music, THE Streets, THE Coral, THE D4.
Am I forgetting one?

Trust me, I'm not holding my breath. Rumour has it tho' that he's recorded about 20 new songs (known titles being Visions & Let's Make This Happen) and wants to tour the album as well. If you consider the fact that if Sony had stayed with Invincible the last single would probably have been released toward the end of this year, it would've meant Micheal spending most of 2004 in the studio. As it is, he's had plenty of time to do so already as there's been no videos to make and no promotional tour.
So, fingers crossed but yeah, I ain't gonna get too excited.
