"Out of the Vein" ~ Third Eye Blind coming May 13!!! Am I the only fan on this board? I've been listening to Third Eye Blind for almost 5 years since their S/T release. I'm sure they get lumped in with other groups that came out around the late 90's, but their music has been the only ones to really take me by surprise and keep my interest this long with songs like "How's It Going to Be," "I Want You," "Tattoo of the Sun," "1000Julys," Darkness," "The Background" and others.
Their first single from the new release is "Blinded (When I See You)." They have a new cd coming out next week and from what I've heard for the past year at shows and other fans that this will be much better than Blue. Also it will shows more of what they are made of lyrically from the lead singer Stephan Jenkins, and musically from the exemplary band which includes Brad Hargreaves (drums), Tony Fredianelli (guitar), and Arion Salazar (bass). They might not get as much radio airplay compared to when they first were known for "Semi-Charmed Life" or "Never Let You Go," but definitely can an ear open. Are there any other closeted 3eb fans/listeners out there? Here the expected tracklist: Faster Blinded (When I See You) Forget Myself Danger Crystal Baller My Hit And Run Misfits Can't Get Away Wake For Young Souls Palm Reader Self Righteous Company Good Man "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Well, their first CD kicked my ass and I still love it! I also loved "Never Let You Go" from Blue but not much else. I'll have to give this new one a listen firt before I pick it up. The new single has yet to grow on me. It seems kinda meandering.

I'm the opposite... I loved Blue but only liked the first album about half as much. I might pick the new one up, I need to hear more first though.

3EB is cool. Good western rock. Loved "Ode To Maybe" on BLUE. That song is so cool to me. I hope their new album is good!

Both cds were awesome. "Losing a whole year", "In the background" MAN those were some breakup anthems!
Can't wait to get this one. Definitely on my list. I heard that Stephan was in town (Atlanta) a few months ago, playing/singing to kids in the Children's hospital (my wife works there, saw him!) how cool is that? Whaddya think, community service? I thought they kicked out the guitarist that wrote most of their songs... so, what was the final story to that? The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Radio releases tend to not do them justice, and they end up being known more for their most pop-ish songs. Many fans bemoan that, but sometimes that's necessary for an initial draw for the masses. I'm sure songs will become available on the internet. Check out Palm Reader, Faster, Wake For Young Soul, and I heard My Hit and Run is really good. Basically this release is more about his relationship with his now ex-gf actress Charlize Theron.
I'm more impartial to the S/T. With Blue I liked the first 6 tracks, and then skipped to near the end. As for the ex-guitarist, Kevin Cadogan, he sued of course, but details of the out of court settlement is not known. Well somebody may have dug around and found something, but I never made a point to find out personally. Let bygones be bygones. Even though he was a significant part of the group starting out, apparently things went really sour during the making of Blue. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
