INXS to play for world peace June 14th in Bali

article taken from inxs.com

On 14 June, 2003 many of the world's most recognized and respected music artists will gather together to perform a historic peace concert to be broadcast worldwide from Bali. INXS are proud to be representing Australia on the bill.
"I've been to Bali a few times now," said singer Jon Stevens, "it's somewhere I've always felf comfortable taking my family. The island and people were hit so hard by the bombing that it ripped the bottom out of their economy and the tourism which they're so reliant upon. I see this show as a way of attracting the world's attention back to Bali and its great people."

Drummer Jon Farriss concurred, "I've been to Bali several times and it's a very beautiful and spiritual place. The serious events which have been happening in the world in recent times have been very alarming and we are proud to participate in this event to show our support for world peace. In the light of the attack on Bali, it seemed appropriate for the event to be on the island itself as a statement to the world."

As we enter 2003, the global community, now more than ever, needs a message of peace and harmony delivered through the far-reaching power of contemporary music. The concert will take place on the peaceful and spiritual island of Bali, a recent victim of world terror, and be broadcast live to over 100 countries reaching an estimated 3 billion viewers.

With growing tensions in the Middle East, Iraq, North Korea and world terrorism, the time is right for artists to take the stage to encourage a more peaceful and spiritual existence for all mankind.

INXS have been invited as Australian representatives at the event which features a host of major stars from around the globe including Sheryl Crow, Zucchero and Joquin Cortes as well as a host a major Asian superstars.

The 15,000 capacity event will take place at Garuda Wisnu Kencana - located atop a mountain, where the remains of a massive limestone quarry cutaway provide the walls, which constitute the perimeter of this open-air venue.
