Is this the same Clark Sisters who recorded "You brought the sunshine in my life"? That's the only song of theirs that I know, and remembered hearing all the years ago. I know they are a talented gospel group.
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

That's them! I think that may have been their biggest hit to date, but they also have a lot of wonderful uplifting songs that they kill vocally. I haven't heard anyone who sounds close to them.

They're based out of Detroit and they have probably recorded about 50 albums (including their solo projects, and collectively with their mother, the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark). Talk about singing?!!! These girls are baaad. Here is the link to their official website if anyone is interested in reading up on them.

i remember both of those songs being favorites of mine when i was little...

but i don't really know anything else of them...i guess i should have a look...i love a lot of more traditional Gospel music...

Three of the sisters relased their solo albums last summer. I would highly recommend you coping Karen Clark Sheard's album entitled "2nd Chance." She has production on there from Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Tim & Bob, and a lot of other people. The CD is OFF THE CHAIN!!!

Anytime I think of Karen, I think of that Soul Train Awards performance years ago, where a bunch of people performed "Lean On Me". Her voice at the end of that performance blew me away.

You right about that!! Those sistas can saaanng, and they are gorgeous to boot!!! Karen Clark Sheard has a fierce album out now (2nd Chance), after coming out of a coma, and she has already won lots of awards for this album, and Dorinda Clarke Cole has one out as well. Twinkie Clark's live album was out last August, and she's coming out with another one this year!!!. They are so baaad, each sister comes out with a monster album and wins lots of awards!!! They always sell out!! I saw a couple of tv shows in the early and mid 80's when their mother was singing with them, and she was an evangelist. Dr. Mattie Clark was super fierce as well (she had to be having four gifted daughters). Lots of entertainers are heavily influenced and are fans of the Clark Sisters.

Yes! Yes! YES! Surprisingly, I still have that performance on tape and Karen killed the end of that song. Everyone at the Soul Train Awards seemd to be "filled with the spirit" and applauded her! That is one of my favorite performances of her. bow

If you think that's something, Kierra Sheard, Karen's daughter is mindblowing as well as the Clarke Brothers, their nephews including J. Moss. Like the Winans, the entire family can saanng!

So true! I know Faith Evans (who favors Karen Clark Sheard's timbre a lot) said that she taught herself a lot of runs and rifs from listening to The Clark Sisters and was first exposed to harmony by discecting the Clark's chords. Mariah Carey also talks about how influential The Clark Sisters are in her voice (she mentions them in the last issue, I belive, of Vibe Magazine). Missy Elliot also thanks The Clark Sisters in all of her album credits as does Tweet. I'm sure there are many more artists who have taken something from these gifted sisters in their musical endeavors!
