I dig 'Live to tell' very much......

Again, the poor girl just NEEDS to be turned out to pasture. You are bitter today, huh? Eehhh, she just went Monica Lewinsky last week, ALL OVER tv, on ANY station that would have her, pimping her new record. I think I saw her selling Cubic Zirconia earrings on the home shopping network. [This message was edited Tue May 6 21:52:44 PDT 2003 by otan] The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

what's with people saying that Nothing Really Matters was a bad choice for a single? it obviously flopped, but it's the most "pop" song on the album, and and obvious choice for a single. i think it's a pretty stupid song, full of some vague cliches, but it's a decent single. it's certainly smarter, lyrically, than Beautiful Stranger, but it had things working against it.
it only flopped because the release schedule got so fucked up for it. they waffled back and forth on whether or not to go ahead and release it, and by the time they made up their minds. oh, and it was promoted with that horrible Grammy performance and that incomprehensible video.

I won't list the 'bad' ones, but "I remember', 'Who's that girl', and 'Love makes the world go round'...I don't see as 'bad' songs... I suppose many hear liked 'White Heat'. I wasn't too fond of it back then, but I haven't heard it in so long, I think I'd like to hear it again... I just feel that "Nothing Really Matters" is the least interesting song on the album.Compared to the other songs,it sounds rather conventional. In fact,"Nothing Really Matters" sounds like an outtake from the 'Erotica' album. These should have been the five singles from 'ROL'... "Frozen" "Ray Of Light" "Sky Fits Heaven" "To Have And Not To Hold" "Drowned World/Substitute For Love" [This message was edited Mon May 12 13:57:01 PDT 2003 by DavidEye]

These should have been the five singles from 'ROL'... "Frozen" "Ray Of Light" givens "Sky Fits Heaven" "To Have And Not To Hold" "Drowned World/Substitute For Love" flops, through and through, even though i really like 2 of those 3 (DW is my favorite M song). The Power Of Goodbye and Nothing Really Matters, as lyrically or musically uninteresting as they may be, are the obvious followup singles. they are the ones that had the best shot at airplay. they may be dull (i like POG though), but when you're picking singles for an album as different as ROL was in the context of what else was on the radio at the time, you pick the songs that are grounded as close to what people are already familiar with, and gradually push them in the direction of the new. look at how terribly Bedtime Story did.
