Chaka Khan is flipping the script on Godzilla.

About seven years after releasing her last studio album, the 73-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member is back with a new single called "Chakzilla," co-written with Sia, who also provides backing vocals."When I was a kid, I really liked the Godzilla movies," Khan tells PEOPLE. "When we came up with ['Chakzilla'] as a title, lots of things just ran through my head and made a lot of sense."

Khan wrote "Chakzilla" with Sia, 50, who came up with the title. "I would've never thought of that," she says. "She's clever. She comes up with lots of ideas."

The two artists worked together on Khan's upcoming album, also called Chakzilla, which comes out on Friday, Sept. 18 via BMG Rights Management. "It's a really, really great album, a great CD with great songs. It's going to be on the pop dance side," she says of Chakzilla, her first full-length project since 2019's Hello Happiness. "We've got lots of great people collaborating as well."

Sia tells PEOPLE in a statement, "Chaka is the Godzilla of chanteuses alive, and it was my honor to collaborate with her on this music!"

i actually, literally mis-heard the lyric as "I'm tryin', I'm tryin'"

It's actually not as bad as I thought it would be. The album is supposed to be released in September and is dance/pop. I have mixed feelings about Chaka doing an entire album in that genre. I just hope it's better than her last album.

Something in the production changed her voice... too smooth, like too clean.

I miss the real sound of her voice, or is it just me?
